For any who say this is the result of liberal government taking a step beyond giving free stuff to the rest of us, my response is: both houses of congress, where this travesty was spawned, are run by the increasingly right wing Republican party.

If you're trying to boycott Skippy (again) you're doing a piss poor job of it. Best way to boycott someone is to simply not read thier posts AT ALL. If you keep reading Skippy's posts you know sooner or later he'll say something that'll make nuclear bombs go off in your head (like this time) and you won't be able to help but reply.

Now down to the meat of it: This is a result of BIG government. Leftist government is probably worse about controlling people but the right will do it in a skinny minute if the end suits thier agenda (e.g. the war on drugs). Skippy's view is the less government in our lives the better.

The problem is not big governments or small governments, it's controlling governments, IMO.

Smaller governments only have the resources to attend to the more basic functions of government. It's big government that can and will interfere with peoples lives and livelihoods. Of the two I'll choose austerity over excess every time.

That is a good point, bigger governments have more of a capacity to control. What I'd like to see is a system where social services are available, but the government doesn't force them on people, sort of an opt-in system for things like healthcare and education. Of course, then you'd have to find a way to placate the taxpayers who don't use these programs and don't want to pay for them.

I'll admit, as much as we tend to disagree on things, I actually kind of admire your independent spirit, and I think it's cool that you provide a different perspective on things.

Being that Gertrude is from the WWII era, she'd at the very least be in her nineties, if not older. So if she's even still alive, I doubt she'd be whipping anyone into shape by this time.
