She is like 16 and knows everything and we must obey.

Does she obey us too? Is this a reciprocal relationship?

no.

She forced her parents to become vegan via emotional blackmail.

I'll have to read up about her when I'm not half asleep. Thanks for the summary!

Are you a simple contrarian? Almost everyone on earth should change course for their own good - what's wrong with being reminded that it is urgent? If you don't like her voice, use yours to help.
I have seen the world population triple, and the horsepower available to help each of us increase even more. What our forefathers all struggled to do is now laughably simple, but we have totally conquered nature. Humans and domestic animals are now the vast majority of bird and mammal life, leaving all the thousands upon thousands of other species in precarious scraps of land. https://xkcd.com/1338/ The current extinctions are so alarming that we are now living in another whole biological age - the holocene.
Meat was the health food of the Stone Age. Before we had trade and food preservation, it was often the only option. However, vegans are over-represented in the Olympics, and under-represented in hospitals and morgues. Not only is the stuff not good for us, especially processed, but producing it is destroying nature, now that we are trying to feed up to ten billion people. It takes less than two weeks for a stomach to realize that vegan food works really well, and then the benefits kick in to keep one content. Why characterise a mature decision as the result of blackmail?

She forced her parents to become vegan via emotional blackmail.

If they became vegan not because she convinced them it was the right to do but by emotional blackmail, that is mainly on them, they are supposed to be the adults.

Please describe this "emotional blackmail." Is it any more than appealing to emotions in a discussion? I don't know of many decisions that are purely rational. People are not built for that, although I wish they were.

I like her simple unaffected style and she's doing a good job of raising awareness. I like her commitment to her cause.

I agree.

And should her parents have been convinced to be vegans because of what she has learned, more power to them. I would have been a very different person had my parents supported me in my goals and dreams.

I'm starting to read about her now. Is she autistic?

Yes she is. OK, I answered my own question. Sorry!

I just saw a video of her arrival in NYC, and the pictures from aboard the boat were, as I expected, much like camping in an odd-shaped fiberglass box that bounces a lot, with noise. No heat or AC, and no hot food on the busy days.
I'm sure she is just doing her best with what she has available, and I can certainly vouch for similar work being perhaps the only antidote to depression for a realist. Her media impact probably has a lot to do with her variation from the usual "Sixteen Year Old Swedish Girl" we see. I'll be helping out with the big strike in September.

I know if I were in her place I'd have probably barfed myself inside out, but I'm still jealous. And also really impressed. In this world, the amount of influence you can have on the world depends on what you're willing to endure, and she just endured two weeks on that boat. That merits applause.

And if world history turns because of an act of political theater done by an autistic person, well, that is just beautiful.

She is a product, designed for consumption.

Rather less expensively packaged than a million cars, and almost everything else you encounter.

i agree with her message it's the packaging and the way it's delivered, it just stinks.
