at the very least, the medical infrastructure could not handle a laissez-faire approach, IOW let the disease spread. we just ain't got the hospital capacity considering that there will still be coronary infarcts/cancers/car wrecks and shootings/stabbings/bludgeonings etc that need hospitalization.

I don't think people care all that much about wearing masks as they care about more massive shutdowns for months on end. Eventually that's going to dig a hole that millions of working class won't be able to get out of.

Increasing tent cities isn't helping contain disease.

People had worn masks during the epidemics in Louisiana back in the 19th century, while others had worn masks during the Spanish Flu. As with Trump, it was the irresponsible Presidency of Woodrow Wilson that had encouraged people to celebrate and have parades during the epidemic. And yes, many like minded people, like those in the Trump Presidency, who would have dismissed medical knowledge with the likes of Typhoid Mary, if they thought scoring points against science would gain them political points.

Which doesn't justify calling for a coup....the nutjobs that surround Trump are really something to behold

There's two trains of thought with COVID-19
i. lockdown - vaccine (risk losing jobs but keep vulnerable completely safe)
2. herd immunity - vaccine (keep jobs but try and protect the vulnerable)

Then there's Trump and the MAGAs - don't have a policy but lose jobs and spread COVID to vulnerable people

too many people think as long as it doesn't affect them, then it doesn't matter.

Unfortunately, that's the American Republican way.

I'm not talking about nutjobs and Trump

I'm just taking about small business owners and the working class who are facing ruin.

Which we all have a moral compass and intelligence to divert from and make the right decision, if we want to.

Well said, Tempus. I noticed no one else responded to you.

Being dissocial is a two-way street. Some people in this very thread are very dissocial as to how this will destroy society both economically and how it will affect overall public health aside from Corona. It's almost like many people themselves have taken a laissez-faire attitude toward the governments' actions. "Let the lawmakers do whatever, whenever, so long as we feel safer in the short-term."
