If all Palestinians move to Egypt, and the hamas ideologies remain amongst some of them, then the fighting will be across the Egyptian border instead..

That car that got blown up.. probably civilian, but, it's not as if terrorists drive around in cars that say "hamas terrorists and weapons inside." Chances are Israel just assumes any vehicle approaching the border is hostile and needs to be taken out vs. allowing any to get into position to be able to fire upon them, or get close enough for a bomb to go off etc. Would need more information to know if that car was full of innocent people or hamas terrorists, really. Nothing in the video conclusively indicates either, and I have no idea what the narrator is saying or what the subtitles say.

At what point do economic sanctions or other acts that go beyond mere condemnation start to be considered?

Only if it's voted on by the UN Security Council, can that be mandated, but that will probably be vetoed by the US. The General Assembly does not have that kind power. Maybe individual countries in the general assembly can agree to sanctions like what they did to Russia when they invaded Ukraine, resolutions made in the general assembly is non-binding, unlike in the security council. Also, in the long run, most western countries probably won't agree to sanctioning Israel.

Yes, that does appear to be the problem. We said never again but we didn't actually mean it.

It says expulsion, not genocide. Bit of a difference.

Well, Jews had been expelled from plenty of places prior to the Holocaust. I imagine my ancestors were involved in the expelling.

The link is in English. I didn't translate anything. I'd find it hard to believe that a different language would have a different meaning.. somehow I don't think they'd buy land and suggest that 2M dead people relocate to Egypt. If they're all dead there's no reason to pay anyone for the land nor send their bodies to Egypt to be propped up in vacant housing while they decompose. Very sure it says expulsion, not extermination - especially due to the context of all the rest of the words in the article.

Forced deportation = ethnic cleansing.

When the Native Americans were expelled from their land many died on route to placement.
Think of the Trail of Tears.
And if you say you won’t leave, then you can be killed for standing your ground.

Trail of Tears.Expelling people from their home forcefully can be fatal to the young, sick, elderly and those heavy with child.

Genocide schmenocide

The establishment of the ICC reinforced the links between ethnic cleansing and other offenses such as genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. In its finalized text on the elements of the crimes in the court’s jurisdiction, the Preparatory Commission for the International Criminal Court made clear that ethnic cleansing could constitute all three offenses within the ICC’s jurisdiction. Genocide, for example, was defined as an act that may include the systematic expulsion of individuals from their homes; the threat of force or coercion to effect the transfer of a targeted group of persons was recognized as an element of crimes against humanity; and the “unlawful deportation and transfer,” as well as the displacement, of civilians were recognized as elements of war crimes.

Despite continuing controversies over its definition, the concept of ethnic cleansing has become firmly anchored within international law. It remains to be seen how mechanisms to prevent and deal with ethnic cleansing will develop and be implemented.

Eh, I'm perhaps unsurprisingly in the camp that finds the interchangeable usage of "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide" to be slippery at best and usually outright manipulative, as there is a world of difference between relocating a people and annihilating them.
