Banning loud children from restaurants, airplanes
The problem with parents is they let their kids be very loud and obnoxious. I have no problems with them talking, it's them screaming and making lot of noise. My mother never allowed my brothers and I get out of control or unruly. We weren't even allowed to be loud in the restaurant nor even run around. She always stop us and make us sit down. There were times when we run around while she be shopping because we were bored but it didn't happen all the time and she keep yelling at us to stop. I liked climbing behind clothes and sitting in it and I could never understand why it was such an issue, same as cutting through the clothes to get to the other side. Mom mostly ignored that since I wasn't making any noise doing it but sometime she make a fuss about it because clothes fall off the rack.
I have a memory where we ate at a restaurant and we went with one of our neighbors. We ate in this room that was for private functions or whatever and while the grown ups sat and chatted, we all ran around in the room. They didn't stop us maybe because we had the room to ourselves and the people who were eating there were not in the room so they wouldn't have been bothered by our screaming and running around and pushing open the doors. I think that was their purpose of being in that room.
So the purpose of kids being banned from airplanes and restaurants is because of parents who let their kids get wild and out of control and go running around screaming and making noise, jumping around like the place is a playground because the parents are too lazy to do their jobs or they think kids should be kids and people have to deal with it. This isn't about them talking, it's about their unruly behavior.
Heck when I worked at my last job, I deliver a play pen or a fridge (I don't remember which) to this room and they had like five kids and you know what they were doing? Making lot of noise and running around and climbing on tables and the ledge and jumping on the beds. Guess what? My parents would not have allowed my brothers and I to do that as kids. When we check into a hotel, we weren't even allowed to go running down the hallway screaming because she didn't want us to disturb people. She always told us no running and be quiet and lower our voices. She sure didn't allow us to act that way in the room either. She didn't want us to disturb guests and have us get kicked out and break something like one of their kids did at the hotel I worked at. Even the room attendant who was cleaning it the next day was furious because they left a huge mess and broke something and she wanted to slap those parents for not doing their job. She was mad at the kids too but I told her she should mostly be mad at the parents since it was their responsibility and their job to control them. And room attendants have a half hour to clean each room. If they take more than that to clean a room because the guests in there were too inconsiderate to not make such a big mess or to even pick up their own garbage, it takes away their time from their family because they end up getting over time or they end up skipping their 15 minute breaks or their lunch just so they clock out on time when their shift ends. I am sure lot of people think "Oh who cares if we leave a big mess, it's their job to clean it" not even realizing they have a time limit and they have to finish all their rooms first before they can leave so if everyone made huge messes, they be there forever cleaning the rooms and not ever clock out till like four hours later or five.
So it's not about silencing kids or making them not talk, it's about them running around, screaming, making lot of noise, jumping on stuff, slamming into doors. My parents never not allowed my brothers and I to talk. They just didn't allow us to misbehave and be loud and obnoxious. Mom would even reward us for being quiet and good by taking us to fast food and have us play on the equipment for a while. That be if she never had to tell us to stop running, stop screaming, stop slamming doors, stop jumping on things.
Sorry.
But they're not being "banned" on the basis of "age," they're being banned on the basis of behavior, and it's perfectly legal to discriminate on the basis of behavior. The sign doesn't read, "Children will not be tolerated," it reads, "Screaming children will not be tolerated." And "behavior" is not a "protected category." There's also a limit as to what is reasonable to accomodate, and if, for example, your mentally disabled child keeps screaming, throwing things, urinating on the floor, ect. it's not beyond the pale for the owner of said resturant to ask you to leave, your child's "disability" non-withstanding. Customer's have rights, but so do business owners, and it's not fair to them to have to tolerate disruptive behavior that hinders the daily operation of their establishment.
Businesses should be allowed to dictate proper attire, attitude, and languge while in their establishments. Did you know you can be kicked out of Wal-Mart for wearing an obscene t-shirt?
And "discrimination" based on various criteria occurs quite frequently. There are "women only gyms," barber shops that only cater to men, and movie houses where you're not allowed to bring children. No one complains of discrimination when a 7-year-old isn't allowed in a porn theater. Only certain things are considered "protected" and that varies by which state you live in and specific circumstances. It's not a case that no business can ever refuse service to anyone, ever. It just ain't so.

No it does, it makes me see what type of organisation (i.e. a restaurant or a hospital) it is, and allows me to check what you are referring to and if your claim here on the forum is valid or not.
That statement is a load of crap as court records are open for the public to read.
Basically, if you cannot provide evidence, your whole argument fails as another dreamt up anecdote.

Where there's a kid's menu, expect to deal with kids. It seems fair for a more adult-type restaurant to be less tolerant of noisy children. I question why a parent would want to bring their kids there anyway, but if they don't disturb the ambiance, I see no problem.
The whole plane thing though, that's another story. Children have the same right to travel as adults and there must be additional tolerance given due to the circumstances. I challenge any adult to keep a child, let alone a baby, quiet and behaved for hours confined to a small space. Mission impossible. Screaming kids on an airplane is all part of the experience.
So it is not illegal to discriminate based on whether or not you have your whole family with you.

No, there hasn't. There is no need to drag children around the world on trips they hardly wont remember.
Easy, leave them home with grandparents or other childcare.
Maby on domestic flights with redneck airlines, but on international flights, you stfu and sit still.
If there is a screaming kid on a plane, i want a partial refund. Period!

I am kind off glad that this sort of thing is happening because with me I have very sensitive hearing to high pitched sounds and that noise of a kid crying can get high pitched. I do think that the restaurants should add a room for the parents and kids were the room is sound proofed from the main part of the place.

1) Who are you to dictate that no child may ever travel internationally? Who are you to declare that there is NO reason for them to do so? Who are you to know exactly what a child will or will not recall, and why do you assume they are ALL on holiday?
2) Who are you to dictate that children must be left with grandparents or other childcare? Who are you to know all the details of every parents life and thus be able to say categorically that they can/must seek childcare?
3) STFU and sit still? Or what sunshine? You going to start a fight on an international flight as well? You'll be getting chucked off at the next stop/getting the plane turned around pulling that s**t. Then you'll be popular. I'll wager people will take the crying baby over the raging tosser who got the plane put down every time.

Can we deny service based on disorderly and disruptive behavior? I think if a guy, an adult, let's say he's 30, is in a bar and making crude and sexual comments to a female (or male) bartender, he'd probably be thrown out. Its the same for a screaming child in a restaurant.
Now if its a kid who's just sitting there quiet and behaving and somebody ASSUMES that they'll start acting up and kicks them out then I agree, that's wrong.

When I was a kid, when we flew, my parents brought activities for us on the airplane for us to do. They did not allow us to jump around in our seats or make lot of noise (we could talk), and we were not allowed to take the tables down and push them back up hard, we were not allowed to kick the seats in front of us either. Mom always told us to stop and we listen. She even told us why. We had coloring and toys. Plus we slept from being bored.
But now today, that be pretty much impossible because kids have to have their toys when they travel and we are only allowed one carry on and the child has to be able to carry one bag on the plane too. Parents cannot bring a few bags on the plane with toys and books and coloring books in it. Even a young child can't carry a heavy bag. I would just have my child have their back pack and have their coloring books in there with crayons and a few books and whatever they can fit in there. That be their carry on. But hey I wouldn't be able to afford to fly anyway so I have nothing to worry about. Besides even if I were more rich and could afford it but didn't want to pay the extra costs or even deal with my child being disruptive on the plane, I would wait till he was older where he won't be disruptive when bored.
Sometimes parents have to wait till their kids are older before they can do stuff like I would never take my baby to a movie theater because then I would have to sit out in the lobby and miss my movie until my kid is done crying or making noise. Same as with restaurants if I eat alone. I wouldn't want to leave my food and have the waiter think I left so he takes my food because I had to take my baby to the front of the restaurant. I would wait until my kid was older when he has the cognitive ability to be quiet when told and not jump around in their seat or tab on the glasses or kick the table or running around. He could still talk, but he won't be allowed to scream and make lot of noise. And no way am I paying 20 bucks or 25 bucks per hour for a baby sitter, it's not the 90's anymore where it was 5 bucks an hour. I'd rather not go at all, period or I could just leave my kid with my aunt and uncle or with my parents where they won't charge us. But if they couldn't watch him, I wouldn't go at all, period. I can wait. I don't need to do fun stuff to be happy and I don't think lot of people realize that. They think they need to go out just to have fun and to live but they don't. Like I say, I can wait. I don't go out much anyway. It's rare when I do so I know I won't miss not going out or hating to wait.
It's never a good idea to assume you know the complete circumstances of others. Maybe a family is moving to another country or flying to visit their grandparents. Maybe the child has special needs, physical or mental, that cause them to become upset more easily. Maybe there's a child with Asperger's on the flight who starts to have a meltdown because the old person next to him smells like pickles and is snoring in a very scary sounding way. Or maybe there's a baby on the flight who becomes completely terrified when the plane runs into some turbulance. Frankly, I'm quite disappointed with the lack of tolerance and acceptance towards others in a community that is intended to be supportive.

I totally agree on this. The whole severe sensitivity to higher pitched noises is intolerable to the point of madness. So yeah, I can totally relate in your case, which is why I do approve of the rules for banning "Screaming" children/infants. Regardless though , I feel they really shouldnt be allowed to run around in stored period. Ive had to many close calls of me almost stepping on toddlers skulls n stuff because their parents are f*****g morons who let them run around the store and be a general nuisance.

Well maybe if the parents would actually at least TRY to f*****g calm down their charges, maybe people would would be more tolerant of it all.
And sadly, the recent trend in parenting is = parents sit around on their fat asses and dont even give a s**t about their childs behavior. Ive seen it happen too much anymore. Id at least be happy if parents could at least make a visbly known attempt at trying solve the issue instead of just sitting there ignoring it. I feel it is the whole reason why the current generation is gonna be a total failure. everyone gets f*****g coddled way too much anymore.

Maybe a separate sound proof room should be provided to people like YOU. You're the one with the problem - segregate yourself.

There should be and is a medium...you can ban children as long as you get a liqour license and sell booze and have VLT's in your establishment...but if it's just a normal restaraunt, there should be kids allowed. Some people are making it sound like children should not be denied ANY service....does that also mean that little Johnny or Suzy should be allowed to go play the VLTs and have a beer and some cigarettes? There are age restrictions for some circumstances such as driving a car, going to a strip show, casino, getting some cigarettes, going to the bar, or buying beer.
