That is not what I am saying, I am saying in this particular clash...the only deadly violence was committed by a white supremacist, I am not sure why this is hard to understand.

One of the alt-right bloggers in particular, Baked Alaska or something like that, had acid or some kind of corrosive substance sprayed in his eyes and is likely to have permanent vision loss. Quite a few of the alt-right were bleeding from head-wounds after they made it through the crowd. That's not a laughing matter, and it's even less of a laughing matter that the police simply got out of the way and made all of this possible.

I have no idea who's saying that but whoever is yes - I'd agree with you that they're completely off the mark. The mayor and governor were Democrats but, like James Fields, I suppose I wouldn't say that all Democrats are criminal negligence or enjoy creating opportunities for violent crowd interactions.

Pretty sure this is what has been happening.

To say something like that really suggests that you have a fantasy-bubble image of what happens when a democracy goes totalitarian.

Or that you do...

Oh wait..wait..wait.... I-know you-are but-wha tam-I?

In summary, before this turns into a complete ape orgy:

Both alt-right and Antifa were idiots and could be counted on for what happened. The park was barricaded on all sides but one with two dual exit/entrances. The shield wall vanished, both groups merged and meleed. That was completely unacceptable and whoever was behind that should be in jail.

it was pepper spray, the stuff regularly used by police on protesters

Something overlooked, if this had been a group of black people, the police would have shut it down early

Where were the police anyway, while groups were charging at each other?

Antifa were fighting for your right to not be purged by the Nazis. And you are calling them idiots for fighting for your right to still breathe.

We already saw what happened when too many people became complicit in the face of a National Socialist uprising. And you would be willing to have that happen all over again. The fact that you admit you believe the counterprotesters were "idiots" says it all right there.

Whatever. Go punch someone you disagree with, let us know how it works out.

no, no, no, thats not how it works, you find some young mentally unstable person and convince them that they are working for god or some such stupid idea, and them get them riled up to the point where they punch/shoot/drive over the people you disagree with

I have little doubt books deemed "triggering" will be removed if they have not been already.

Why don't you enter the gas chambers willingly? By not making a stand, you are admitting your willingness to be murdered by your enemies. Better to die a pacifist than to hurt the precious feelings of a Nazi, after all.

I don't see it stopping with statues of Confederate Generals.
I do see more violence of greater severity if this trend goes on...
Other than rabble rousing and manufactured offense, not to mention history revisionism, there really is no logical reason to be against mere statues.

f**k it, tear them all down. Why are they important?

Sometimes violence is the only way things will change.

They are important to a lot of people for reasons you wouldn't understand. Why is it so important to tear them down?[/quote]

I think we have to deal with the white supremacists severely.....but we can't go down to their level.

Otherwise, their views will acquire a degree of legitimacy....and, perhaps in extreme cases, create martyrs.

Their views already have a degree of legitimacy, according to certain people in this thread who would rather see the Nazis mass murder protesters than to see people rightfully fighting for their right to still be alive.

People are truly naive if they don't think death camps won't happen in the US under Trump if they allow the Nazis to march freely on our streets spewing about the virtues of genocide and inciting violence against anybody who is not exactly like them under the guise of "free speech".

It is exactly because of people like techstepgenr8tion who argued for pacifism in the face of National Socialism that allowed Nazi Germany to gain as much power as it did.

The ideology that Antifa comes from wants to forcibly decide what things I can say and what words I can use. Is that as evil as eliminating entire groups of people they do not like. No. The lesser of two evils makes them evil. The potential cost of further empowering them because they hate Nazi's also is too high. We helped "radical Islam" because of a common enemy, that did not work out so well. That common enemy had the ability to vaporize everybody. The current common enemy is at most a few thousand thugs.

We will not let a regime like Nazi Germany take hold in this country. I have faith in that.

We have to be vigilant....but we also have to have a perspective on this.

Many Republicans, some of whom are pretty conservative, Tea Party types, are deriding Trump's comments at yesterday's press conference. They didn't feel "compelled" to--trust me.
