Unfortunately, that's the American Republican way.
It's a worldwide phoenomon called human nature.
Which we all have a moral compass and intelligence to divert from and make the right decision, if we want to.
Every time someone considers the greater good the Communists win.
Y'know, I thought I had seen every episode, but that seems new to me!

Increasing tent cities isn't helping contain disease.
Well said, Tempus. I noticed no one else responded to you.
Being dissocial is a two-way street. Some people in this very thread are very dissocial as to how this will destroy society both economically and how it will affect overall public health aside from Corona. It's almost like many people themselves have taken a laissez-faire attitude toward the governments' actions. "Let the lawmakers do whatever, whenever, so long as we feel safer in the short-term."
So, are we to just let the oldest and weakest among us die so the engine of capitalism can keep chugging along?

More like the engine of a functioning society.
Shut it all down, eventually no one will be safe or healthy. The oldest and weakest shouldn't be out and about in the first place. Though I think it's cruel to lockup the nursing homes and deny them access to their loved one's physical contact and delay/cancel other health procedures they would have otherwise had. In the long-run, they're still not much safer.
Yes, lockdowns should end, society should function as normal. Those at high risk should exercise caution.

Nobody says it needs to be shut down forever. If we had had a competent President during this plague, we'd have had a better handle on it by now, as many other countries have. With any luck, with Biden in charge, and a vaccine on it's way, this will be over with soon enough.

Or the government could you know pass another stimulus for regular people not big corporations, expand unemployment or...even temporary UBI but I know too socialist and socialism evil bad. A lot of workers are not paid near enough to be forced to put their life on the line when half people can't be bothered to wear their masks while shopping in my opinion. If anything we need an actual lockdown till the pandemic is more under control, then we can think about society functioning as normal.

I am hoping so.

Is anyone at all surprised? Not me. Early on, some of us saw Trump as the kind of person who would grasp and hold on to power by any means possible. When we expressed our concerns, people laughed us off.
Who is laughing now?

I think we both know that some people don't let pesky FACTS and silly ole' REALITY get in the way of banging their little drums and shouting their silly ideas as though THEY have the real insight on "Da Troof", and "everyone else" is too (negative adjective) to notice
Even if trump did legit stage a coup while outright saying "this is a coup", his worshipers would just start arguing that "it was a legal and totally democratic coup, so they're ok with it, and anyways, since it was legal and totally democratic it's not really a coup anyways, so stop calling it one, fake coup, not real..."

"He did not call for a coup; and if he did call for a coup, he did not mean it; and if he did mean to call for a coup, then you do not understand why; and if you do understand why, then you know it is no big deal; and if it is a big deal, others have done worse..."

That's the time for the Trump club to get booted in the nards.
