I think Hezbollah were planning this post-Gaza incursion to take advantage of Israel's preoccupation with HAMAS. the old war on 2 fronts. One of the reasons the Normandy Invasion was possible for the allies in WWII was because Russia was keeping the bulk of Hitler's armies occupied.

the attack was likely inevitable, the impact might have reduced due to Israel's operation, might also be sending Hezbollah a message they can inflitrate anytime.
