Yes, I wasn't washed, my clothes weren't washed, the house wasn't clean and she didn't give a flying hoot about whether I went to school but she fed me and she cuddled me and she loved me all the same.

I agree completely. That's the idea I got about this case , because the neighbour said that the woman had explained her son didn't go to school because he was bullied/mocked by the other children. It sounded protective to me.

And I know too, AS and easily overwhelmed by the apparently infinite/endless "growth" of things to do to keep clean and fed, how easy it can be to end up in pretty squalid surroundings, and yet still be affectionate, close/loving to someone, etc.

I think it is very sad that this woman seems to have been separated from her son for little more than an inability to do the housekeeping, incl the shopping and cooking.

I believe that the landlord is responsible for causing the worst/most sickening part of the problem.

I grew up in a chaotic household that went through cycles of squalor and cleanliness. My mother had BPD, was an alcoholic, and neglectful and abusive as well. Unlike the examples here, there was no genuine love or caring to offset the destructive atmosphere. I was so glad to leave that house for good.
