An obvious fact which is NEVER mentioned by the Media: for 8 years a Kenyan-American president does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Confederate statues and memorials, even when he has a completely Democrat Congress.

NOTHING ever happened about Confederate statues and memorials under Billy Jeff Clinton, or Jimmy Carter, or Lyndon Johnson, or John Kennedy, or Harry Truman, or Franklin Roosevelt or any post-Civil War Democrat administration!

And now, suddenly, they are unbearable?

Because we as a nation have developed a much deeper collective social conscience.
Bringing up Obama's Kenyan family background says more about you than about Obama.

You're right ... I should have brought up a better role model than Obama to make my point.
So here's Charles Barkley:

“I’ve always ignored them!” he continued. “Rick, I’m 54 years old. I’ve never thought about those statues a day in my life. I think if you ask most black people to be honest, they ain’t thought a day in their life about those stupid statues. What we as black people need to do: We need to worry about getting our education, we need to stop killing each other, we need to try to find a way to have more economic opportunity and things like that. Those things are important and significant. You know, I’m wasting time and energy screaming at a neo-Nazi, or [saying] ‘Man, you’ve got to take this statue down.'"

also from the article:

"The removal of Confederate statues has drawn criticism from other leaders in the African-American community, including the president of one of the NAACP chapters who said she disapproves of people tearing down the statues."

I guess whoever wrote the article and included the phrase African-American, it says more about the writer than it does the African-Americans they wrote about. (Because I was using Kenyan-American in the same vein.)

Barack Obama is an amazing role model. My daughter, who is white, and who had known him for almost her entire life as her President, still absolutely loves him. I don't think she knows who Charles Barkley is.

This type of fake conspiracy is so farcical it would normally make believers unfit for the office of president of the US. However there seems to be plenty of angry (insert skin color here) men and women who (despite the obvious warning signs) are willing to gamble their countries future for reasons that will fund plenty of PhD dissertations for years to come

I say KUDOS to Charles Barkley, and the Madam President!!

These two, and other black people like them, are, IMO, the ones who should be heralded, and held up as leaders of their community!!

I actually don't care whether people take down Confederate statues or not. Provided, however, that they do not touch my famous and heroic cousin, the great General Jubilation T. Cornpone -- may he live in our memory forever!!

I'm not saying that you're a troll. I'm saying that you love it when liberals are offended ... and you don't seem to like anything else.

What does that make you? You tell me.

It should be clear that I could care less if anyone thinks I'm a troll. Hell, I enjoy having the label and others applied to me.
Your posts and threads have taken on a decidedly trollish demeanor. Well, they've always leaned that way but more so lately since the Trumpmeister got elected. Not that it bothers me one iota since I find trolls more amusing than disturbing.
Keep up the entertainment.

You do know that trolls are responsible for tipping people over the edge resulting in a spate of suicides across the globe. I wouldn't be so proud of boasting about such a reputation online

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but he's been gone awhile. He tumped over about twenty years ago, with his mount's nose in the dirt and had growing weeds all around him.Pitiful sight to behold, just pitiful. He's gone now,I have no idea where. But the park is for sale if you want to buy it.There was a trout farm, but after the park closed the otters ate them all with some help from the locals.

Ha ha!!

Kind of sad really. The whole theme park was based on satire.I have fond memories of that amusement park as a child, got to take my kids there before it closed permanently. It brought in lots of summer jobs for the locals at one time. After it went under a gaming company bought it and cabled the roads off.But they didn't mark the cables well and a trespasser on a four wheeler almost got beheaded. He sued and won the property, then lost it becuse he couldn't pay the taxes. Then it was bought again and they tried to make an artist's colony out of it.Then one of the larger building burned, and now its up for sale again.
I had a friend get stuck halfway down the water slide there, somehow he got hung up and was flopping like a big fish.It was funny to see,but not for him.

I was just gonna start a thread about "the one Confederate statue that everyone can agree MUST be preserved!".

Didn't know that there was EVER an actual physical statue (outside of the comic strip and on the Hollywood Musical screen) of the....most important Confederate personage of all!

On one hand: he was a Confederate. But on the other he: did more to help the Northern cause then all of the Union Generals put together!

So he is venerated by "many sides"! :D

If we acquiesce to the removal of so-called racist imagery from the American Civil War, shouldn't we support the removal (demolition, destruction, relocation and repavement) of Holocaust imagery like Auschwitz and other concentration camps from World War II? What about Cultural Revolution imagery? Should nations now be expected to eradicate their own dark pasts?

Or, should we learn from such imagery as the witness and evidence of wrongheadedness of the past? Has humanity suddenly overcome its need to remind itself of egregious mistakes and malevolent intentions? Such arrogance.
