It doesn't, but measures have been passed and are still being proposed to try and limit those deemed mentally unfit from owning firearms. Unfortunately, while I think it is good up to a point, it has the potential to be taken too far and spill over to lesser disorders.

This Aspie owns an AK-47. It's a parts kit build from a Yugoslavian AK that likely had an ugly past in the 1990s, but since coming into my hands, the idea is for it never to be used for killing as long as it exists. We can see where this is going, but that saying has been beat to death...

Thank you for the kind words. Out of curiosity, did you come to this thread with a position on the issue, and if so, did reading some of our debating change your feelings? I'm just trying to combat the stereotype of the gun owner as an ignorant redneck, and crumple some fuzzy reasoning while I'm at it. Glad to hear that someone is getting something out of it.

Thanks for your patience Dox, I took some time to think things over.

First off, to answer your question. Yes, I have a position on the issue(s) in this debate. At this age, I have had enough experience/exposure to some things in life and have made up my mind on what works and what does not -especially for myself (very key point here).

H-o-w-e-v-e-r... I must add, that I do listen to anyone that makes sense and I usually take the time to think through what they have said -even if I disagree with them on all, some, or none of whatever is being discussed. BUT, they (anyone) have to provide a clear viewpoint with logical supporting material. This is for anything, not just this topic.

Now, in regards to this thread/topic/discussion/debate, I am a supporter of the 2nd Amendment of the U. S. Constitution. I am a gun owner. I have been a gun owner for over 20 years. I plan on being a gun owner the rest of my life. My conviction is so strong on this, that if a woman who I planned on marrying told me the guns must go or she leaves, she can leave.

Why do I have such a strong conviction about it all? (See, this is where the focus of anyone on anything should have some of their thinking -for everyone is motivated to have their views, likes, and dislikes.)

I grew up in Maryland near Washington D. C. At that time, the area I lived in was changing. Crime was going up. The murder rate double in a few years, and then double again in a few more years. The local high school had about 1-2 homicides a year. The S.W.A.T team was called out one year when a local gang decided to run amok inside the local McDonalds. There is more, but you get the point - lots of violence, drug use, vandalism, and lots of other nasty things. I remember I saw my first dead body at age 9. The poor guy had been shot in the street. I don't know why, I just knew he was dead.

Then I went into the military. That taught me a few more things. I will not go into details, but my time in service taught me that life is not only precious -but very fragile.

Criminals do not care about the law. They are going to do whatever they want -and answer to no one. Usually the only thing criminals will respect is power.

(I took a break from typing to re-read what I have typed and think about what more I wanted to say. I will sum it up and get to the point.)

Being a gun owner gives me an option at a time when no other option is available.

For anyone out there that disagrees with what I have typed. Feel free to comment back, but you will be communicating with yourself. I care not to debate/argue/defend/etc. any of my points/views here for my mind is made up on this topic. I only contributed this post out of respect for Dox.

Dox, if you have any further dialog with me on this, feel free to PM me.
