Singing sensation in London Mental Health Clinic

After all the sudden fame from "Britain's Got Talent," Susan Boyle has taken ill in a Mental Health Clinic in London.
This quiet, sweet woman, age 48 years, from a sleepy, little hometown in Scotland has gone from obscurity to sudden fame and
fortune with all the world-wide media coverage. Being thrusted in the world-wide spotlight is enough to make anyone suffer a
breakdown.

Still, remember when Susan Boyle made her singing sensation debut on "Britain's Got Talent" and remarked that at the age of 47 years, she never had a boyfriend?? Can this quiet, sweet middle aged woman, now 48 years, be an undiagnosed Aspie?

Newspaper reports (can't escape them) have said she was starved of oxygen at birth, therefore has learning difficulties... but maybe, I can't say for sure.

Is your only basis for concluding that she might have AS the fact that she's never had a boyfriend? I think you need more to go on than that... Still, that is amazing o.o

Have to admit. That made me think something more along the lines of a clinic in which all of the patients were experiencing some kind of anomalous "singing sensation".

Why has no-one made it prominent that she has fairly serious learning difficulties?
The show says they couldn't have done anything more for her, that they threw doctors and psychiatrists and specialists at her, but they don't see that that is the problem...she only needs one person, one person to tell her what is right and what is not. I know because I have gone through this problem myself.

Also, I am not just basing my concerns on the simple fact that Susan Boyle is 48 years and never had a boyfriend. In addition,
Susan Boyle lived solely with her mother before her mother's recent death and has had limited social contact other than her
church attendence. Any learning disabilities or "oxygen deprivation" at birth is news to me.

It does seem likely that she has Asperger's Syndrome.

Not enough to base anything on though, is it? I mean, there are plenty of slightly odd recluses but that doesn't make them AS.

I don't like it when people try and accuse others of being AS...it doesn't make any sense to me. We have very limited and often unfounded information about people in the public spotlight and everyone, no matter how neurotypical, has at least a glimmer of AS qualities. What right do we have to accuse this woman of anything when we hardly know a thing about her?

not wanting to annoy anyone, i saw this person for about 45 seconds on the news & my initial "judgement" was that this person wasn't "normal" or NT. people say you shouldn't judge & maybe so.. but i can't help but think i "read" something in faces..
She may well not have AS, or be on the spectrum at all.. i think it's quite probable however

Now they're going to introduce psychiatric testing for reality show contestants because there's been so many complaints. She does remind me of how someone with asperger's might go on one of those shows, doesn't seem to 'know' what to say or do, how to 'act'.

Someone I know who is qualified to make such statements has said to me "it is highly probable she is on the spectrum."

I wouldn't make such an assertion myself, but take it as you will.

Prehaps, Susan Boyle is not on the AS spectrum. But it is obvious the media has expoited and taken advantage of another vulnerable person for the sake of television ratings.

Well yes she is being exploited. But that doesn't mean this isn't staged.

This woman has a great voice, even if she did not win the British Talent contest. Perhaps she could still do recordings, cut a CD, sing at charities. Many non-winners at American Idol still had opportunities.
