while I think that they should have taken the disappearance more seriously. I do not agree that they needed to issue an Amber Alert. It is not the purpose of the Amber Alert

Poor little boy it's heart breaking. I don't know what you could do with someone that could harm a child like that other then to make sure they never come in contact with anyone they could hurt again,

Horrifying.
I have been to Grand Forks- it's such a "normal" small town.
I'm worried that this murder is being blamed on the woman being bi-polar... which will bring more
stigma to people with mental health issues. There are so many comments from people in BC on
news sites saying people with mental illness should be "locked up" to prevent this from happening,
as if being "bi-polar" is a reason for murder! There isn't enough information about this case yet,
to blame it on mental illness alone.
(Although BC is underfunded for mental health treatments-- if you have a mental breakdown in this province,
even though healthcare is "free", you will have to wait months to see a psychiatrist, and you won't have access
to proper counselling. Most mentally ill people end up homeless and suffering.......)

I'm surprised that the police treated it as a regular 'teenage runaway' case considering what the family had said about him. If it was up to me (and I often wish it was) I would have made more of an effort earlier on when he went missing. Very sad story and a pointless waste of a young life.

So how do the police know this woman with mental health issues did it? Sounds to me like they're assuming she's a threat because of her mental illness.

Yeah why don't they do any investigation like finger prints, checking to see if there was an intruder, etc. but instead they rather assume the woman did it because she is mentally ill and the fact the boy was found in her apartment. But if she were normal, would they still have done their job by investigating or still assume she did it?

the child was found dead in her apartment, which makes her Suspect Numero Uno. However, the mental illness and her true guilt will come out during trial. What is pertinent to the investigation and what is pertinent for sensational news are two very different things. Don't assume that because the news jumps on the mental illness, that it is also what the police are concerned about.
