Greenwood - The parents of Noah Kreise, the Greenwood youngster who disappeared in a Swiss waterfall this Spring, were on hand as their son was honored at a Center Grove elementary school for his commitment and compassion directed toward special needs children.
The Wiggle Room at Pleasant Grove Elementary School is a specially-furnished classroom for youngsters with special needs, such as autism, who require a secure private environment for focused attention.
During a motorcycle ride and community festival fundraiser, it was announced that Center Grove Middle School Central, Noah's school, will be the next to house a Wiggle Room. It will be named in the teenager's memory.
"We are grateful to accept this dedication and grateful that Noah's compassion for others has not gone unnoticed," said Susan Kreise as she turned over the plaque bearing her son's name to middle school principal Jack Parker.
The Kreises said they weren't surprised to hear from parents of special needs children that Noah had taken an interest in their youngsters.
"Definitely there were a couple of parents who came up to us and told us things we had no idea that Noah had done," said Kurt Kreise. "One woman said that he wrote down the assignments and what books were needed for her son without prompting, and I had no idea that he had done that."
Organizers of the festival hope to raise $5000 per school to outfit Wiggle Rooms district-wide.
The plan is to expand the concept throughout Johnson County. Already some 30 children utilize the room at Pleasant Grove.
