Nah, they're quite determined to have an extroardinary family. I suppose that's just the path they choose, and even though they get all sorts of flak from the media and too many comments or funny gazes from onlookers to ever count, I can only give them blessings.

There's a tiny part of me that fears a terrible, broken marriage situation behind closed doors and out of camera view, but I won't believe it until the tabloids--and excuse me here--make it "official." Even if there is, let's hope they never do, and that this family is a resounding example of the sanctity of healthy marriage.

I have a question, why not adopt? i mean 19 kids? Poor Women. with that many kids how do they even have the time to go about making a new baby. Im fine with lots of kids, but i personaly woulda stoped at around 4 adn started adopting if i wanted more from there.

They are going to have a grandchild October and that child is going to be older than their aunt or uncle which be their 19th child.

I don't judge them. They don't live off of government programs. They pay everything out of their own pockets to pay their bills and support their kids. So I don't see why it's a problem to some people.

Why would they want to adopt if they can make their own children? They still have more children anyway if they adopted but they let nature take it's course and have god decide how many children they will have. They are very religious. They hardly get to watch TV. I don't think I handle that many kids. I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway and it be wrong of me to keep having kids and expecting society to cater me a new home for my family and giving me food stamps and WIC and more things to help support my children. That's wrong and I hate it when people do that but the Duggers can afford it.

Umpteenth offspring topic

They will probably go for an even 20. Many families were large a century ago, but the one thing the Duggers have is their children were born in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Why they want to publicize their private life is a great contradiction to me. :?

I think that it's good that they're following their passion, which happens to be parenting. I'm wondering if both the husband and wife are aspies, and they both have a special interest in parenting.

I wonder if that's a record. She conceives nearly annually and breastfeeds each baby. I'm amazed that her body can handle all of that safely, while still raising 18 other kids! And she seems to do it all with a smile too.

While I wholeheartedly oppose the Quiverfull movement (of course, I'm not Christian in the first place), I'm a huge fan of the Duggars. They all seem so happy and healthy, and despite their religious convictions, they seem to be very tolerant of those that don't share their beliefs (I was amused when I saw the episode where Jim Bob and Michelle visited the head shop in San Francisco :P).

I still think they are insane, though, for choosing to have so many children...

They aren't really choosing to have more children and they aren't choosing when to stop. They have said they let god decide how many children they will have and they don't believe in birth control. They did use birth control in their first few years of marriage in the 80's and then they had their first child and then she got pregnant again while she was on the pill, but then she miscarried and she and her husband believed the pills did it so they stopped using them. They decided to let nature take its course and let god decide how many children they will have. But all I can say based on this is they must love children a whole lot or they would have stopped having sex or put their kid up for an adoption if she accidentally got pregnant because they had enough kids.

-sigh- Those poor kids are doomed to either remain uneducated for the rest of their lives or be brainwashed by religious dogma in order to gain some "small" and rather opinionated education.

They're home schooled. I wonder how the parents teach all those kids since they are all different ages and in different grades.

So that they can provide a less-fortunate child who already exists in the world a happy home and family to stay with and grow up in, and be loved in...
