2000000 $ is a lot of money but taking many days to establish if the sweats are cocaine is unreasonable. I know that it possible to test for cocaine in a matter of minutes, so I would reason that the police did not take all reasonable care regarding the question of "has a crime occured".

well 2 million might be overkill, but if they do win NYPD wont be sloppy next time...instead they will just replace the coconut with coke and then bury it.

Cops are really overzealous in trying to bust drug users. If you're even accused of selling drugs in the United States, they can confiscate all your things and refuse to return them to you even after you've proved your innocence. I don't necessarily think that cocaine is okay, but I don't understand why we should be wasting so many resources on it when we could be catching murderers and rapists. The rate of unsolved homicide and sexual assault is just embarrassing.

that's why, unless they have a warrant, you don't let cops search your car, even if you have nothing to hide. seriously, cops can do whatever they want and most of the time, i bet they're just given a slap on the wrist. and when they realize that they messed up, they're just like "oh sorry. our bad". well at that point, the damage is already done. they should at least compensate you somewhat
