Snow Piles up, Paralyzing Nation's Capital

Image

Quote:
A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, with emergency crews struggling to keep pace with the heavy, wet snow that has piled up on roadways, toppled trees and left thousands without electricity.

Officials urged people to huddle at home and out of the way of emergency crews. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation's capital in modern history.....

And here in Pennsylvania.........

Unbelievable... looks like home. I'm envious to an extent - miss the snow, don't miss the shovel - but it's 64 in Phoenix, and in the 50's up here in the hills.

About an hour ago York Mayor Kim Bracey issued a travel ban on all non emergency vehicles
on city streets.

So glad not to be there anymore! Like makuranososhi said, I miss the snow but don't miss the shovel. It's around 60 degrees here, today!

NUTS!!

I'm in Central Europe and over the last ten days we have had nearly two feet of snow and the thermometer has dropped to -18C (-1F). The roads are still open, the buses are still running, the trash is still being collected and life goes on. Why is it some people can't get used to the fact that sometimes snow falls in the Winter?

I'm here right now!! Nice to know other people that don't live in DC care. It's not bad compared to other places, it's just DC isn't used to a lot of snow. I'm snowed in right now and loving it. I have an excuse to be lazy!

Before someone else beats me to it, global warming anyone? lol

30 inches is pretty crazy tho. I don't think Milwaukee has ever had that much snow in a single storm.

Two feet of snow and they call it a blizzard. When I was a kid, I used to walk to school in snow that was up even with my nose. In addition, it was uphill in both directions.

in PA that much snow is nothing though. In my area nothing closes down . We also have very effective plowers, but that is beside the point.

I'm so sick of the snow but glad I don't live in cold places up north like Chicago or Colorado.

I moved to DC from Buffalo, NY, the snowiest city in the US (next to our neighbors Rochester and Syracuse). This was a big snowstorm, but the response in DC was terrible. They did a half-@$$ed job plowing the streets, and no one cleared the sidewalks yet. Nothing is open. The federal government is closed Monday, and I suspect most everything else will close with it. It's ludicrous.
