I saw a letter to "Dear Abby" that said a six year old boy named Perry had Autism and greeted people by saying "Good Morning" to Others at all times of the day when he met them.

When he did this, he was ignored by Other People.

Why did this happen, and what do ya'all think of this?

I have Asperger Syndrome and was hurt by this story.

Am I wrong? Was I too sensitve?

Heh, people in the lanes usually laugh at me when I tell them to have a nice night at 1PM in the afternoon... I kinda laugh myself.

I just tell people to have a tasteful tuna. Might as well go completely random.

Dear Abby? When did you see the column? Abigail Van Buren hasn't posted a column for years.

There's still a Dear Abby column every day, proclaimed to be written by Abigail Van Buren (of course, it's the daughter of the original writer). If you go to this site, it updates daily. The one in question was done on Sunday and is titled Stepson's Drug Habits Put New Marriage On The Rocks. Dear Margo, if you're interested, posts every Thursday and Friday at this site.

Personally, I really don't respond to anyone (or if I do, it's not on time), so I'm a bit more sympathetic to the strangers who don't. Additionally, I've found some parents don't like it if you talk to their children (even if the children say the first thing), so it's best to avoid.

It is a bit sad but my theory on this is that when a child frequently greets people in a way that people know is incorrect (saying "good morning" in the nighttime) it eventually becomes pretty annoying and irritating for the NTs so the only thing they can do (instead of constantly correcting the child) is to ignore them.

What did Dear Abby say about it? Can you like explain/post the column on here?

People think you're joking or making fun of them. I often don't think what time it is and greet people with good morning, and they'll laugh and corrent me.

Why can they not just respond by saying "hello"?

How odd. I always say 'Good morning' and people just state the time if it's not morning.

What's it matter if the kid doesn't have his time-frames correct? At least he's being cordial.

That makes me really sad that people are so intolerant.

EDIT: I hope the OP doesn't think I was directing the question to him/her.....or that I was being rude. I just felt strongly about the topic.

it was the other folk who fell down in the sensitivity department by not at least trying to humor the boy.
