If your school issues laptops, it is a good idea to have some non=transparent tape on hand, lest you get caught stimming or even worse.

And now they get to have eyes in the students' bedrooms!

Had I one of these, I would have to do one of two things - either place electrical tape over the camera, or make sure that it was facing a wall with a banner reading,

WAR IS PEACE!
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY!
WE ARE AT WAR WITH EASTASIA! WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AT WAR WITH EASTASIA!

Of course, then I suppose I'd run the risk of being sent to Room 101...

I piece of non transparent tape over the web cam lense and an old mp3 player looping horrible music or other sounds taped to the microphone covers is a very effective countermeasure.

Epic. I'd do the same thing, only I'm in college and have my own laptop (not school issued.)

I'd go with this for the sound.

This is ridiculous, it is not the business of any school or school official what a student does inside his/her home. The use of these Cameras should be discontinued.

So.... all the worry about "kiddie porn" on the internet, and it turns out that the SCHOOLS are peeking into the bedrooms of teenagers.

Fine the school a million dollars and throw the pervs into jail!

They will catch on to this eventually.

That story was soo whitewashed.
Search for school webcam lawsuit.

If they only used the webcams on stolen laptops,
how did they get the picture of the kid eating candy/smoking dope in his bedroom?
How did anyone know that they webcam could be turned on?

This is so illegal, it is close to Columbine and Mepham in seriousness,
and if nothing happens, nobody does anything, they are going to put
webcams in every single TV and computer and leave them on all the
time just like in 1984 because nobody cares enough about their privacy
and they might as well hire pedophiles in jail to watch the cameras,
and if whoever took the webcam pictures doesn't go to jail, ... whoever
that had their picture taken in the room will probably end up there instead.

Webcams DO have sound, and it is SO illegal to wiretap.
And it is SO illegal to operate a hidden camera in someone elses home,
especially bedrooms and bathrooms. And if the principal's computer has
one or two more pictures like that on it, ... ... ... ||||||||||||||| :!:

And yet my laptop has a camera and a microphone. So who might be spying on you or me?

I was getting bugged by S.YTIMG.COM recently when on Youtube or other flash sites
and occasionally the last 2 years, but it was part of Flashplayers versions 7 and
above, and I would see it connecting and not be able to stop or block it, and it
would slow down my browser as soon as it connected, usually after watching
around 5 videos. My webcam doesn't work but I was annoyed that it was
slowing down everything. I'm sure that every time youtube slowed down,
it was S.YTIMG.COM breaking in.

But youtube is changing away from Flashplayer to H.264 and ogg theora
(HTML5 video standards) and I can't tell if they are still bugging anymore
because it is now a lot faster than it used to be and S.ytimg.com doesn't
appear anymore recently.
