Train in deadly crash in Norwegian capital
The train came off the rails in Oslo
A train has crashed in Norway, killing three people and seriously injuring another three, according to reports.
Several railway cars broke loose and sped out of control towards the port in Oslo, the capital. Witnesses said they travelled at 100km/h (62mph).
They derailed and smashed into a building, bringing part of it crashing down, killing and injuring some of those working nearby, police said.
Some of the 16 wagons, with no locomotive, then fell into a fjord.
Vegar Halveg, who works at the port in the Sjursoeya district, said he heard a loud screech and saw several empty cargo wagons speeding past.
"They were going much faster than they usually do, so we realised something was wrong," he told the Associated Press news agency.
"The last car was practically airborne."
Police and emergency workers are at the scene, along with coast guard helicopters and divers.
The Norwegian National Rail Administration said the wagons had come loose at the Alnabru cargo terminal, several miles away, and rolled to the port.

An eye witness has estimated the speed of the train to have been about 100 km/h. The wagons followed the rail for 7-8 km. It's weird they didn't derail at some point as the rail going from Alnabru to the port has many turns. The wreckage of the train is spread out over about 1 km. The eye witness said the last wagons didn't even touch the rails, they flew about 30 cm/1 foot above them. Close to the place where the train went is a storage of plane fuel.

Alnabru lies 100 meters higher than the port.

The traffic control tried to lead the train onto another track that would cause it to crash into a wall instead, but it failed.

My father works at the port. This week he has the afternoon shift and so he arrived at the harbour after it happened. One of the people who were killed was a colleague of his.
