Flame-thrower scooter owner arrested

Colin Furze, a plumber who adapted his scooter to shoot 15ft flames from the rear, has been arrested for an alleged firearms offence.

Image

Quote:
Mr Furze, 30, displayed his modified his scooter, with an anti-tailgating flame thrower operated by the flick of switch, in the press earlier this week.

But Lincolnshire Police spotted the pictures of Mr Furze allegedly riding his scooter on a public highway – and arrested him on Thursday.

He was held on suspicion of possessing an object converted into a firearm, and was released on unconditional police bail without charge until May 6 pending further police investigation......

Can't people be themselves, anymore?

When you're that unprotected on the open road, ya gotta have something to keep people from tailgating you... :P

This is really funny, reminds me of a mini game in Saints Row (probably the 2) where you drove through the city with an absurd mini flame car destroying everything

I agree with the arrest....well, maybe not the arrest, but he should have at least received a fine or something. That sounds extremely dangerous.

It's actually not, all you have to do is mount a sparkplug in the the exhaust pipe and connect it to the battery via a switch, the unburnt fuel vapor in the exhaust will do the rest. Hotrodders in the states have been doing this for years, my old roommate had a similar setup on one of his El Caminos and the flames produced are similar to what you'd get from a propane bbq, just longer. They might singe eyebrows, but the important part is that no flaming liquid is involved, that's the stuff that can stick and cause serious injuries.

I wasn't surprised to note where this occurred, I don't expect common sense to break out on that island anytime soon.

So you're saying it's....fake fire? No vehicles behind him would catch fire?

And where exactly is Lincolnshire? Is it a British island?

Not that it's "fake" fire, but it's like the flame from a lighter that you can quickly pass your finger through without harm, setting the vehicle behind him on fire would require a flaming liquid of considerable viscosity that's very different from what's seen in the picture.

It's in the UK, I was referring to the entire island.

it is a national choice between 2 imperfect philosophies- "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" - or "peace and order." pick your poison- i personally would prefer the latter, but i am weird that way. give me the commonwealth anyday.

I can mildly appreciate the humor in this, but really common sense is the phrase of the day here. Any actual arguments in favor of this guy would be on the same lines of the arguments against laws that prohibit texting while driving. All of which can be summarized as: "I have the right to be a potentially deadly killing machine if I so desire, it's my liberty.

As an earlier poster put it, it's a battle between freedom of choice and social sanity, you decide, but I think rationalism points strongly to one over the other.

I think making flame-shooting contraptions is just fine unless you start pointing them at people, which is exactly what this person is doing. This isn't a short flame but one that extends a fair distance and should be in clear violation of the law. Traffic law, at the very least.

How about first degree assault with a deadly weapon?

No, it's a county. Dox keeps telling we British (or was it English? he hasn't been differentiating reliably, which is always a bad start) how stupid we are (at least the third thread in the last few week! ) for not running our country the way he thinks we should.

Probably could go with English, as long as you're not Scots, Welsh, or Northern Irish..;)
I used to work in the sports department at a Roses' store back in the day; We had a manual of firerams regulations (which I read in less than busy moments), and they cover everything! They even cover Spacecraft! (not kidding)
So they had him dead to rights...

Actually I haven't so much been posting about the stupidity of the British/English/whatever you want to be called as I've been criticizing the overreach of their government and the curious lack of anger at such. Considering the amount of flack about how America is run that I see on this forum coming from non-Americans in general and citizens of your islands in particular, I don't see you as having much room to complain. You also haven't been here long enough to know that I've been a critic of the government of the UK for years, it's just come up often recently and I don't like to waste an opportunity to raise awareness.
