We've had some scares, with exotic pests entering the country over the last decade, and questions about adequacy of biosecurity, in relation to imports and items brought into the country.

This is not the first time there has been a problem with biocides and north american tribal regalia. In the past a large number of objects were taken from the tribes, these objects ended up in university, museum and private collections. These items where then treated with things like DDT, lead and arsenic to stop them decaying.

The law in the US then changed to allow these items to be returned to the tribes, one big problem is that some of the objects contain very high concentrations of these toxic substances. A big question exists as to "how safe are the returned objects to handle or use", how can the levels of toxins be measured in the regalia and how can regalia be made safe for unrestricted use.
