Seriously profound question. Quick responses.
1. People generally treat me the "sanest" if I am in artist role. There seems to be much more leeway for eccentricity and out of normative behavior . One woman spontaneously kissed me on the cheek yesterday due to a random act of kindness I couldn't avoid making. Better than being eyed with suspicion and fear when not in that role.
2. Not really sure what sanity is to tell you the truth. Have seem stalwarts of society breakdown, social pressures twist them, force them into odd ,sad patterns of behavior they never expected of themselves.-Few years on, formally bright ,shining person broken underneath walking around with facade for expression. Have seen those at the bottom of the so-called social ladder unconsciously content and absorbed in roles. Have seen angry people, sad people, hollowed out people, straw men and women, those caught up in inter-generational chains of action and consequences they do not understand, and will not resolve in their lifetimes, those euphorically in love one week , grief burning their insides out ,the next.
All transient. I guess one aspect of sanity is to be able to draw all this stuff together and make coherent sense of it. Maybe that is what art is , coherence and a means to comprehend and express what normal thinking obviously can not.
Maybe you need to be a little remote from it all to keep a level yourself.
