the local grocery chain has them, however their models have a tall flexible rod attached to the trolley with a stiff pennant in neon colors touting the 'shopper in training' below that is quite visible at adult eye level.

Petsmart has them! They have pictures of different cute pets on the flag. I see no issue if parents keep their kids under control. Some people let their progeny run all over the stores and ride the handicap scooters, so you don't even need little trolleys to make trouble. I think it could be a good tool to keep them in line, actually- they only get a trolley if they are behaving, if not it gets taken away. That worked for me with my daughter in the Petsmart!

I remember using them at Big Fresh (a new defunct supermarket chain) back in the early 90's. They were metal like the "big" trolleys (unlike the plastic trolleys common today) and did have flags on them, and I remember finding the hallway that they kept them hidden in when they were not being used (most likely because of kids being kids with them).

It's the big ones that do the damage. Hands up all those who have ever been hit by a deliquent trolly. Two hands up if that strike was one of those crippling back of the ankle hits. Shoppers should have to sit a proficiency test and be licensed before they are let loose with one. 8)

I'm sorry? It's DANGEROUS to have a child use a shopping trolley??

It's dangerous to get out of the bed in the morning, too, there could be a banana peel waiting for your unsuspecting foot.

What I'd be concerned about is the "consume early, often, and in excess" message that "shopper in training" trolleys send.

But this is the age of the "magic" plastic cards and weekly "allowances" to ten year olds that could keep a family of five (in certain parts of the world) fed.

That's right, the apocalyptic riders have given up horses, they're riding shopping carts now.

LOL! My dad would say the same thing! My mum would send me and him to the local grocery store and he would assign me to push the cart and would say, "Now don't hit me." I've never been blessed with great cordintion and he would go any further than like two inches from me so naturaly I did hit him.
