BP has reportedly taken command of the coast guard and local law enforcement, and are using them to forbid the media from seeing the full extent of their crime.

Let's just say who it is you're talking about. It's Rand Paul, who I've come to believe is even more insane than his father.

In a Huff of smoke topic

Difficult to watch, but necessary. A picture is worth a numerous endangered species. I just read that the spill has endangered 23 species of marine life around the Gulf.

Thanks for sharing, Aimless.

BP is not an American company.

Not so. The Coast Guard has the point on this. There is no legal way a private company can countermand or override military control.

That's what's being reported on CNN.

This whole situation has frustratingly become a repeat of Hurricane Katrina.

And in my mind, I have South Park-like commentary of both incidences.

"Someone's gonna help those people right?"
"That's not important right now...what is important is finding out who's fault this is."

Look at what greediness and lying has done to the Earth. When the contract for offshore drilling was signed, liability for a leak greater than this was assumed. And the person in charge of signing the contract knew that something even close to that maximum size of the leak would not be able to be contained. They went for it because it was a gold mine for them. Now look at the mess they've made. They put the darn cap on but the oil is still leaking. They can't close it. There are absolutely no reliable solutions to this. I've read some articles that had stated that even the relief wells cannot be trusted. They were first saying that the wells would be completed by August, but now they're saying that it could take all the way until December.

So how on Earth are they going to stop the oil from flowing? And how much will be leaked by the time the relief wells are in place?

This frustrates me to no end. I thought they were going to seal the ruptured pipe this time. But the oil is STILL LEAKING!

Tragic. But I'm glad there are caring humans that are rescuing and rehabilitating the birds that have managed to survive.

If the government made drilling on land and shallow waters available we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. We have the technology to control this sort of leak in sensitive wildlife areas and we can get better equipment and divers down to the leak in up to 2,000 feet of water.

Really? I hear this all the time (started during 9/11 and onwards) from rich rightwingers in the Us trying to control the minds of the (feeble) people that are too afraid to form their own opinions. Thats how the republican party survives in the Us, on nationalism and thick-as-concrete voters.
