Gah. So sad, though not really surprising.

And they didn't eat him too? What a waste of young, tender meat, probably about like lamb or goat or veal, or maybe pork I'd venture to guess.

I might have to ask, and I'm curious to know, if any of you have been over there, and if so, are the troops doing any good? What can one conclude if incidents like this and the bombings and whatnot can't be prevented? What end is served by putting our guys on the firing line for this?

I've got a couple of mates serving with the Paras and Marines that have been out, they've told me that the work they do is definitely valued, and it's imperative they finish their mission, else the Taliban just come back and do this en masse to all the people they've been driven away from. Regardless of the cynicism around this whole conflict, things are getting better out there, I'm sure of that.

The biggest fear of the average Afghan is the international troop will leave and the Taliban could go back to destroying culture and civilization. Our troops are winning, even if it is slowly. And they are proud of it.

"Taliban" means religious student.

Years ago Afghanistan had a left wing government. They invited Russia into their country to help them keep control.

America gave much support to help the "Taliban" and Osama bin Laden to drive the Russians out of Afghanistan. Which they did.

Then America said "Bin Laden did 9/11". Did he? Who knows?

America said "Give us Bin Laden". Afghanistan said "Make a case against Bin Laden and we will turn him over to the World Court"

America said "Screw you, we are going to invade you"

So they did and so we are still there nine years later.
