Five babies have died in California from an apparent epidemic of Whooping Cough. Babies are especially vulnerable from such diseases as Whooping Cough, also, known as "Pertussis" as babies are not fully immunized by vaccination until six months of age.

It has been proven that vaccines do NOT cause Autism (all traces of mercury has been removed from vaccines) and parents who do not properly vaccinate their children are placing their children's lives at great risk of death.

In addition, parents need to be vaccinated against the disease of "Whooping Cough." The Center for Disease Control requires that all adults be vaccinated every TEN years. This has the effect of "cocooning" which protects the baby until the baby is fully protected by its own immune system by six months of age.

Please protect your children...

Thank you for stating what should be obvious. I live in northern California, and it is a fact that many of the people who do not vaccinate their kids are people who are anti-vaccine, either because of the bogus vaccine-autism connection or because they are part of some neo-hippie "back-to-nature" movement. Seriously, there are lots of people like this around here. They creep me out.

Whooping cough does come back when not enough people are vaccinated! I just got my Tdap booster last month. People who don't vaccinate are endangering the public.

That just comes to prove, that all children should be vaccinated.

I doubt it was the lack of vaccincation.

Vaccinations do more harm than good.

My theory is the reason why babies are dying so much more than they should be is because we're feeding them cow's milk, MSG filled baby food and so on.

WHY IS THERE MSG IN BABY FOOD? I will never understand.

Gluten too.....

From a medical perspective, TXaspie, I have to disagree (in part). The epidaemeological research around pertussis is, in my view, very solid in demonstrating that pertussis is the most significant vaccine-prevantable cause of death. Vaccination programs clearly inhibit infection, which limits onward exposure.

There has been controversy about whole-cell pertussis vaccination since the 1960's. When vaccination rates fell, there was demonstrable increase in incidence rates, and pertussis related infant mortality. The public health mathematics was inescapable. Physicians continued to recommend and administer the vaccine because the public health risks were far greater than the vaccine reaction risks. The new, acellular vaccine that is in use presents far fewer reaction risks, although there is some evidence suggesting that acellular vaccine-resistant strains of B. pertussis may be presenting themselves in North American and Western Europe where the acellular version is primarily used. (It's significantly more expensive than the whole-cell vaccine).

B. pertussis is a causa sine qua non for pertussis. You don't get infected with the bacillus, you don't get whooping cough--end of story. However, pertussis immunity from vaccination is short term, generally only lasting a few years. Most people are immunized as infants (when they are most vulnerable), with a single booster. This means that most adults have no immunity to B. pertussis, unless they are reexposed, and develop a natural immunity (that will, itself, only last a few years). These people represent the pool from which infants are being infected.

Although I am not a paediatrician, I would certainly see breast milk, and additive free foods as a preferable choice--but that preference is dictated by nutrition, not infectious disease. An infant who is going to present sensitivities to food additives or components of cow's milk is likely going to present health concerns long before infectious disease becomes a problem.

Vaccines are generally safe and effective. Lack of vaccination often leads to death or serious illness. Your position is based on ignorance of scientific testing and fear. It is worthy of the Darwin Award. Perhaps you should not vaccinate your children. They will sicken and die leaving more oxygen for my children and grandchildren to breath.

I remember being pregnant with my oldest and having another lady in my prenatal class that when her little one was 5 weeks old ended up passing away from the whooping cough after being turned away from the hospital and all saying that it wasn't that, that her and the baby would get better. It was horrible. :(

Survival of the Fittest is my motto!

It is silly older kids are not being vaccinated and are infecting babies that do not have a choice.

Morally, it is a crime. There needs to be a separate closed community for these vaccination abstainers.

I am virulently pro-vaccine, but I have a simple answer to these anti-vaccine people: instead of worrying about some amount of mercury in a vaccine that is much less than in breast milk or a can of tuna, they should get to the real culprit of mercury pollution in the environment and stop this utter nonsense.

That is why they should organize to stop volcanoes from erupting. It will probably be more fruitful because there probably is some big bulldozer they could use to stop all the mercury underground from entering the air and going by wind around the world faster than Superman can fly because of the sheer violence of the explosion, and the fact there is no credible or reproducible evidence to say vaccines cause autism. How else could David Kirby accuse Chinese industrial plants of causing autism in California since they found out thimerosal is not a cause for autism? If you think I am kidding, please look these things up. It was either in Autism's False Prophets or Defeating Autism: A Damaging Delusion by Michael Fitzpatrick (a book that goes on a search-and-destroy mission against Defeat Autism Now!). I read both at the same time and I forget which one it was.

Also, polio is a very misunderstood virus. In America it known for severe paralysis, but it only happened in about one percent of cases (which was about 16,000 cases a year on average, not like polio actually did anything detrimental to the health system...). 95 percent of the time there were no symptoms (which is a very good reason why you should still get one) and was highly contagious since it spread through fecal matter or nasal and oral secretions (good thing we do not have microscopic vision to see what we actually touch; we would all live in giant bubbles if that was the case), which made it very dangerous back then, especially since a person at any age could get it. Given the fact that no known case of polio has really occurred here for a while except for incidents when people abroad got the live oral polio vaccine (which we do not do administer anymore), I am pretty sure it works, and I am pretty sure it does not cause autism, since no one ever really brought that point up. Meanwhile, thousands of children have died in Nigeria because the local rulers called the vaccine witchcraft. Someone should tell Jenny McCarthy and Generation Rescue...if they did not censor you on their websites, maybe you could...

You could tell Autism Speaks, but unfortunately the daughter of the founders is on the board of Generation Rescue and the National Autism Association, and she probably would not like that. It would very bad I think to irritate the person who you founded the organization for (FAST FACT: She is also the mother in the pink shirt in the Autism Every Day video complaining about how tough her life was with an autistic child; I will not shed a tear for her at all).

Which brings up the point that vaccines worked so well, people are deriding them today. They have absolutely no sense of what is was like to experience or have the diseases which used to plague my country. Maybe they should get them...no, wait...they are vaccinated...and do not have autism...and got enough herd immunity to protect themselves to make sure they did not get it...shoot...there goes that plan...
