Because one country (Norway) can pull together 38 others countries to put this together.

And why not?

People have told me I act European,
I live in the states, but I am told I
don't act like it, not 100% sure what
they mean, but it does not btother me.

Norway has so far decided to stay out of the EU. I wish we had joined them.

^Completely off-topic: If we get euros in Sweden, I'm moving to Norway. :x

On-topic: I'm guessing we, as a continent, is torturing ourselves like this to make up for our collective guilt from past sins. Or something like that.

That's the final. Eurovision has forced us to listen to a multitude of excremental bands BEFORE it gets to the finalists, and then we have to endure a load more toss before we get a winner. A winner chosen by politically motivated voting. The only time Eurovision was TRULY international was when Lordi won it, and that because metal fans in EVERY nation thought it was better than whatever shite their own entry was like.

I stopped watching the Eurovision Song Contest a long time ago. I remember the days when a song would be shown each week on a Saturday night and the TV viewers could vote for the best one, with the songs being sung by a well known star such as Cliff Richard or Olivia Newton-John. Now I don't recognise any of the acts and there's no way I could sing along to any of the tunes.

Love world music but I've never really been a eurovision fan. It just all sounds like mainstream pop to me.

No offense Europe...Image

Eurovision itself is bunch of mainstream crap but some of the things they do innit are inspiring, for example this stunt to get everyone involved :)

thumbs up for it!

And you can only imagine how it was like when Lordi won eurovision, if one has any idea of Finnish behaviour, one undoubtedly can guess how it affected to alcohol beverage usage :P

Norway dont need to join EU. They have access to our inner market through EFTA and i do not think they have anything more to gain from a full membership.

(1) Norway has oil. Lots of it.
(2) It doesn't have a historic resentment of Britain and Germany that drives the most rabidly pro EU countries of Frace and Belgium, which is a large reason for why the EU got started in the first place.
(3) Its already got a strong currency, so it doesn't need the Euro, which is starting to look a lot less like a strong currency these days.
