Yep, 18 years since that abomination and they are STILL finding oil on the beaches of Prince William Sound.

My thoughts are with the environment, ecosystems and people of this community and all that have suffered so immensely.

I hope this area is healing, if not slowly but surely.

Note: and the lesson was never learned just as we have seen in the Gulf of Mexico

...And Exxon kept the case in litigation for 20 years, and ultimately got the damages award cut from $2.5 billion to $500 million (not including how much inflation also reduced that number).

Quote:
The award will go to a group that originally consisted of 33,000 commercial fishermen, seafood processors, landowners, native Alaskans and small businesses. The ruling slashes their recovery of punitive damages from about $75,000 apiece to $15,000.

Most of the species that ever existed have become extinct and most of these before there were any humans to blame everything bad on.

My bad. :pale:

Actually, it's been 21 years since the Valdez Spill.

And I am still finding turds from a flock of Canadian geese in my back yard. So what?

Tell me. Did life cease to exist in Prince William Sound? No? Then what are you complaining about?

Ruveyn, if you have nothing positive to say, then why bother? There is a vast difference between finding Canadian geese turds in your back yard and loss of life from an oil spill, and yes some life DID cease in Prince William Sound, namely herring which have never returned to the area, and salmon which have barely made a come-back. This destroyed businesses and lives that relied on the fish species to survive. There has also been numerous suicides in the area of Cordova with the added pressure of years of litigation and bankruptcy.

For someone whose posts(the ones I have had the great fortune to observe) constantly reflect your LOVE of humans at the expense of everything else, you seriously lack the scope to understand the human consequences of that disaster. I am not complaining, but I bet the people of Cordova are. Even I get it, and I am a serious misanthrope.

Comparing it to geese turd.........

Has fishing ceased in Prince William Sound. A simple Yes or No will suffice. And it is the destiny of every living thing on this planet to die some day.

People will have to go elsewhere to get the herring which are alive and well somewhere. I just finished a jar of pickled herring. It came from somewhere. So it didn't come from Prince William Sound. Big deal.

Sh*t happens. Get used to it.

wow ruveyn....do you not think all animals (humans included) deserve to live till nature decides it's time for death?
do you think killing dogs in human promoted dog fights is okay? how about humans who pay 100,000 dollars to
some tribal chief so they will be allowed to kill an elephant,or a rhino, in a off track african dustbowl?

is your position that non-human animals are here just to service humans, that it's ok to do what we want to animals because we're smarter? sorry, rusty limbo beat you to that conclusion.

too bad if whales are killed because some human 'makes a mistake'? do you think whales exist just so humans can kill them to make 'oil' products?

you make me cry with sadness. every day of my existence, i discover humans who make me ashamed to walk on two legs.

Both human and non-human animals live as their survival needs dictates. We are all at the mercy (such as it is) of Nature. We do what we do to survive. If some animals bleed because of that, such is life.
