Autism Speaks: Don't Speak For Me

We, the undersigned:

Utterly repudiate the notion of murder being an acceptable response to disability
Vehemently deny that most parents of autistic - or otherwise disabled - children harbour thoughts of murder
Testify that the false 'reality' concocted by Autism Speaks film 'Autism Every Day' is not a true reflection of the reality of parenting an autistic child
Call for a public apology from Lauren Thierry for increasing ignorance regarding autism

It's good to see that this petition was created, signed!

As much as I like the idea... How is this going to work? How would Lauren even know about this?

What about the autistic people that aren't actually parents? Where's the clause for them?

The name of this thread is wrong, Autism Speaks is making the petition.

~25 hours of sleep in the last week. Besides one line that said they made the film, It appeared to be that Autism Speaks, with the slogan "don't speak for me" wrote the petition, at least to me.

That said, I should have gone back and read to find out what group it was.

I signed it. I thought that that "reality" wasn't the true reality at all for everyone with an autistic person at home. I mean, autistics can have temper tantrums, but it doesn't mean that they think of murder. It also just takes a little longer for us to learn social skills, not to mention we're also have a higher sensitivity level in some areas, and our social skills aren't the best. Lots of the time it takes an extremely high degree of patience in order achieve some things that the general population would achieve in a flash (compared to auttis/aspies). Also, William Freud incidents don't occur every day; I sure don't think of murder a lot, especially myself committing it.

The Psycho-Model Stratagem

Displaying the worse of the worse, being entirely negative is part of the deriving of funds ultimately. This might be true often when there is hardly a balance in awareness's.

It's not true. I mean, I turned out fine. I'm on the spectrum. You'll notice it portrays none of the hyper-focus.

"Autism speaks" is the name of the organistation whoi made the video.

"Don't Speak for me" are the group against "autism Sopeaks" that have written the petition.

It's saying {the group} Autism speaks should NOT speak for people on the AS s[pectrum.

Petitions such as these are generally ineffective as far as getting solid results is concerned. But they do have the positive outcome of spreading the word about issues such as this.

I signed it, just to show my agreement, even though I realize most likely nothing will come of it.

I don't need to say anything now.
