Quote:
Secretary of Defense: Let's Stop Freaking Out Over WikiLeaks, Nobody Trusted Us Anyway

Image

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is keeping it really real regarding the WikiLeaks controversy. His take? It doesn't matter. All the talk of international embarrassment and diplomatic implosion doesn't change the fact that nobody trusts the US to begin with.

Speaking with some seriously refreshing candor, Gates cracked, "Every other government in the world knows the United States government leaks like a sieve, and it has for a long time." So maybe we should all relax over "meltdowns" and the like. You don't need to worry about tainting international image when it's already tainted! [NYT]

If I was an Iraqi and I wanted to help the US take out Al Qaeda, I probably wouldn't give any information to US Forces because that would be a death sentence for my family thanks to wikileaks.

Screw that idiot, he doesn't know what freedom is or that public organizations should be transparent and accountable to its citizens. The Federal Government is the greatest threat to democracy in the United States, and it's acting like a private non-transparent organization accountable to NO ONE. I have no allegiance except for the truth, regardless of where it comes from.

how is he part of the problem? his viewpoint at least in this instance would contribute to the advancement of your viewpoint. He for all practical purposes agrees with you.

He promotes policy that violates international law and if we used the same standards on ourselves that we used against the Nazis that piece of trash would probably be hung.

What policy would that be? Also need I remind you that the United States only bows to international law when it feels like it.

I think IvyMike was referring to user Inuyasha and not the subject of the OP. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Quite frankly, I couldn't care less about who IvyMike was talking to quite frankly. There is such thing as transparency there is also such thing as common sense.

If I was a volunteer helping to rebuild Afghanistan after the Americans cluster-bombed it into the stone age, I don't think I would want US Special Forces to be given information about where I am in case some cack-handed jarhead grenades me to death, which would be a death sentence for me thanks to America.

If I was any other sovereign nation in the world except China or Russia I don't think I would want the Americans anywhere near me in case they decided to demolish my infrastructure and replace my government with a corrupt patsy of their choosing. I would know I can't trust them thanks to wikileaks.

You didn't seriously need wikileaks for that, did you?
