I so hope there is a good outcome in Egypt, and democracy and a middle class can grow.

Don't count on it. It is a Muslim country. The kind of liberty known in the U.S. and Canada will not flourish there.

It's not a muslim country in the sense you think of it Ruveyn . =.= The Muslim Brothers are like a minority in the political scene (like 20% of the electorate) and the rest of the youths and other people that manifesteded are educated.

And besides, i hope for them that the kind of "liberty" that the USA currently has (IE: surrendered to the pockets of corporations, economists and other ideological /religious nuts that lobbies at your government) never comes to pass.

I'm more worried that the army now has control of the government in Egypt. But not out of concern for Israel, my sympathy for that country has mostly run out. =.=

Plus the best part of this revolution is how American policy makers are all behind Egypt's new democracy. Now, they wouldn't go near Mubarak with a 10 foot pole, but before the people of Egypt spoke up Mubarak was "a source of stability in the region" and a "major US ally". Hah,, now that it's clear that America has, all this time, supported a dictator despite it telling everyone that democracy is the only way. They look like a bunch of idiots, because they can't question the revolution despite it not bringing another puppet.

This is better than a sitcom...

Thankfully, Obama didn't listen to the conservatives in this country, who wanted to support Mubarak. Standing with the rioters will make it more likely that Egypt will continue to be a friend.

Walk like an Egyptian topic

All the videos I have seen about protests and freedom rallies have mostly been about men. Egypt needs more women in any government that calls itself a democracy.

The honeymoon phase of the euphoria of freedom will pass, and the business of elections and restoration of the Egyptian economy will be the new reality for them. The Egyptian people will have to define what democracy means to them, and for the definition to be workable it needs to be inclusive for all the people.

Western governments will have to understand that Arabic definitions of democracy will not be synonymous or identical with what the US and European value, but that different nations can work together for common benefit to live wisely in reasonable peace. 8)

Depends, Carter pulled the same thing with Iran and we ended up with a group of lunatics in power and the Iran Hostage Crisis.

I'm still concerned we're going to end up with something that makes Mubarak look like Mother Tereasa (sp?).

I also find it interesting that Obama, did not and still will not support protestors in Iran that want to bring down that totalitarian Government.

As a matter of fact, the situation in Iran was quite different. The Ayatollah Khomeini didn't just happen to have strolled in after the Iranian revolution and seized power; rather he appears to have been at the helm from the very beginning.
And it should be remembered, Carter allowed the Shah to come to America after he had been overthrown for cancer treatments - something the Islamic government of Iran had warned us not to do.
As for Egypt becoming an Islamic republic - that is unlikely, as the Egyptian army is still very much running the show behind the scenes, and the last thing they want is something other than a secular government. This is a military establishment who knows what side their bread is buttered on; they won't put someone in charge who will endanger their close relationship with the American money machine. And is should be remembered that most of the protesters were very secular minded young people of both Christian and Islamic faiths - they are not going to see their country taken over by religious lunatics.

Wait a year and see why Egypt ends up with.

Remember how the French Revolution concluded.

With tents of thousands of people getting their heads sliced off.

About time.
Although Mubarak was only the headpiece of the bureaucracy there.

I hope things turn out well in Egypt from here on.

Sayonara, Mubarak. (And it can't come soon enough.) Maybe spring is coming to the Arab world after all--for the greater good of us all.

I hope this scumbag isn't replaced with another one.

@ Inuyasha: I'm not surprised at all. He didn't do s**t other than express disapproval when South Korean ships got attacked by torpedoes from North Korean ships.

I hope he won't be replaced by someone equally as bad. I can just see what happened in the other middle east countries. The US privatized policy makers privatizing all national companies. Outsourcing all operations. Disaster capitalism is what it is called. It is most likely to happen in Egypt.
