Adam Benhamma, 3, vanishes near Mille Iles River

MONTREAL - Laval police are searching for a 3-year-old boy who went missing early Sunday afternoon in the Auteuil district.

Adam Benhamma, who is autistic, deaf and mute, was visiting family on Pointe aux Ormes St. and playing outside with other children when they noticed he was missing, police said.

Benhamma wasn’t with his parents and doesn’t know the area, which is near the Mille Iles River.

It’s also a very wooded area, said Sgt. Simon Charette.

Police began searching for the boy in the minutes following his disappearance at 1 p.m., Charette said.

At least 30 police officers are involved in the search, along with firefighters and a provincial police helicopter, Charette said.

The boy is two feet tall and weighs about 25 pounds. He has black hair and was wearing a black mauve hat, a black coat, blue jeans and blue running shoes when he disappeared.

More to come.

My five year old girl has high functioning autism, but I'll tell you, the idea of her wandering off like that - or worse, kidnapped - is my worst nightmare. I can really feel for the parents.

:( At least his parents will have some closure down the track with this development. Like Bill said its my worst nightmare losing my little Autie, so helpless and vulnerable.

Absolutely true. :(
I say a prayer everyday I send her off to school on the bus.
