6 days ago, Topeka, Kansas repealed the local Domestic Violence Law, even went so far as to release some accused abusers from jail. The reason? The city budget! Is anyone else infuriated or scared by this? Sylkat 8O

I feel sorry for the abuse victims in that town. I hope they move as soon as possible. For some reason, I sense this has nothing to with the budget but protecting some local bigwig's kid or something from prosicution.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/10/1 ... save-money

here it is.

Anyway I agree with one comenter on this...there is a second amendment solution to this problem.
However the majority of women that are in prison are there for killing or severely battering their abuser.
Without a police record women who nut up and kill the bastard that beats and terrorizes them go to prison. I dont see this turning out well.
Next we will be seeing a rise in imprisoned women for murder in Topeka
The best thing they can do is every single woman and everyone who loves a woman in Topeka should move before the next fiscal year, so if they thought they had budget problems before, wait till half of their tax base leaves.

Have the laws against plain old murder, battery, assault been repealed in Topeka? I should think these basic laws would be enough to protect the weak from the wrong doings of the strong.

What about male victims of domestic violence? 40% of domestic violence victims are men.

I believe that anyone, any gender, any age, any relationship who is abused in the home is the victim of a crime. The ruling in Topeka effectively de-criminalizes domestic abuse. How can this happen in the year 2011?...Sylkat

I agree with your first sentence. However, I also agree with Ruveyn that the laws against murder, battery and assault should also be enough. Notice that the article doesn't say that laws against felony domestic violence were repealed, only the ones against the misdemeanor type were repealed. I think misdemeanor domestic violence includes stuff like pushing and shoving but not serious violence.
