"Six Killed, 3 Wouned in Shooting in Southern CA Hair Salon"

This is awful. They also say that the shooter was wearing body armor (possibly premeditated?). I guess he either had a really bad hair day, or had it in for someone at the salon. Either way, I hope he gets locked up for a loooooong time.

Yes, I'd say if he showed up in body armor that it was definitely premeditated.

He should swing if convicted.

Story as of 6:30pm PST, including picture of the alleged perp --> LINK HERE

It happened just a few blocks from where I used to live. He was not wearing body armor, only a bullet-proof vest, cargo pants, and a baggy shirt. It is not clear what type of weapons were used in the shooting; multiple weapons of unknown caliber and type were found in the suspect's vehicle. There were people in the salon who were not injured. Six people were killed at the scene and the remaining three were taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Two died later at the hospital. There is currently only one surviving victim, who is currently in critical condition. The suspect was taken to the Seal Beach jail for questioning.

Motive for the shooting is currently unknown. It is also not known if the suspect knew anyone inside the salon.

California has retained the Death Penalty for Capital Crimes, and has executed 13 people since 1976. there are currently 721 inmates on California's Death Row.

That is sad and senseless.
Why a hair salon? That just does not make sense. Of course killing unprovoking people going about their own buisness doesn't make sense either.

but I still cant get it outa my head....Why a hair salon??

I heard that more officers are killed while on a domestic abuse call, than any other situation.
domestic abusers are the most dangerous when their partner is trying to leave them....due to the threat to his/her control.

I dont know what gets into these people but they are just insane with a need to control someone totally and completely.
And people wonder why women just put up with the abuse instead of leaving...that is why.

the number 1 cause of death for women under 40 is domestic abuse, over 40 is undiagnosed heart disease. Women of all ages die of a broken heart.

That is sad. I am sure this could have been prevented. I sure this was not the first act of violence against her.
There needs to be police assisted getaway plans for those in violent domestic abuse situations. Some areas have started doing that.
There also needs to be stricter punishments for domestic abusers, most get a few months in jail and then when they are released they punish their partner even more for calling the police.

Reminds me of the song "independance day" By Martina McBride
That song brings chills up my spine to this day.

Hopefully he'll get what's coming to him. Kalifornia has a death penalty, but it's suffering from a bureaucratic log jam that could be remedied if anyone had the balls to try.

He wasn't fighting the divorce, he wanted custody of the kids. I do see his viewpoint, actually, since he is obviously a kind man with a great deal of love for all humanity. Who better to raise children?
On a serious note, R.I.P. to the victims, including the children, whose mother died because she would not let him have them...Sylkat

People that are "Obviously" kind don't kill people, except in self-defense.

Dear Fnord, I wasn't serious, I was being sarcastic and hateful. I live South of where this happened. This morning there was a murder/suicide in the town next to mine, and the apartment building then was set on fire. I work in a hospital and yesterday a baby was brought in to the E.R....didn't survive, coroner's case. Last month in another town adjoining mine, a man returned to the home he was removed from(yes, restraining order), his wife was not home, so, instead of her, he killed their baby daughter and the wife's mother, then burnt the home to ashes, so everything she owned is gone. I am absolutely sick of family violence, people killing the ones they say they love...Fnord, do you remember a clever t-shirt message that said'The world is not a Burger King, you CAN'T have it your way'? why don't these domineering creeps let their 'loved ones' have their freedom? I apologize for the rant, but I am just sick of it...oh, and Topeka, Kansas just de-criminalized domestic abuse...check it out...Sylkat

My brother and SIL used to live a few blocks from that salon, so this hits close to home. Seal Beach has always been a small beach town where I've felt completely safe, even at night. Since this was a nasty custody battle that got so far out of hand that the person snapped and killed not only the children's mother, but innocent people, I still would feel safe going there. Today, the DA announced they were going for the death penalty for this case, but unfortunately in this state, it takes many years before people are executed.

Even then, this reminds me of how lucky I was to get out of my bad marriage without having children, as I was able to completely cut my ex-husband out of my life and not had to deal with him in the years since the divorce was final.

 I grew up with abuse.

I also used to live a few blocks from that salon. The missus and I used to walk from our place down to Ruby's for lunch on Saturdays, and then meander back home along PCH. One of my friends used to hang out with the owners. While still in the service, I used to read to the kids at McGaugh. Seal Beach, if it weren't so expensive, is where I'd like to live (we're 16 miles away). It is the kind of seaside town that parents feel good about raising their kids there. A lot of military retirees call Seal Beach "Home". It's two nicknames are "The City that Time Forgot" and "Mayberry by the Sea".

And now this.

ya killing the kids mother is going to endear them to him

I really dont understand when creepizoids think like that; they totally dont compute the fact that they hurt the kids because they love their mother.
As for the children, they lost both of their parents and will likely feel that it was their fault that their father did that.
Children often blame themselves when there is family dyschord. The younger the child is, the more likely they will internalize these events as their own fault.
