Boxing champion Joe Frazier dies at 67

Quote:
Joe Frazier, 67, the former heavyweight boxing champion who was known for his fighting spirit, powerful punch and intense rivalry with Muhammad Ali, died Monday night in a hospice in Philadelphia. He had been suffering from liver cancer.

As a heavyweight in all senses of the word, Mr. Frazier was one of the best known champions of the latter decades of the 20th century.

The Frazier - Ali Fight was all I heard about when I was around 12.....

:( Man, I was so sad when I heard this news. I'm a boxing fan and I watched some of old fights, including his second fight with Muhammed Ali, and he was a sight to behold. Great ko power, great foot movement, as graceful as he was dangerous, truly one of the greatest athletes, not just in boxing. He also was a gentleman, in contrast to the image of the boxer as a thug. He will be missed.

Frazier went 41 out of a possible 42 rounds with Ali in their three fights, and he would've gone 42 if his trainer didn't call the Manila fight after the 14th round. If that's not a testiment as to how tough Smokin' Joe was, then I don't know what is.

RIP, Smokin' Joe. We miss you already.

Even Muhammad Ali had the highest respect for the man. As the sporting event of the 20th century Ali v Frazier is up there.
