For those on the pill, better read this.

Thanks! I'm going to post that to another forum I'm on as well. Just the link to it.

My daughter takes the generic for lo-ovral (she's 18) and it scared us for a minute, but her generic had a different name and was by Barr Laboratories, so I'm thinking we are safe.

Thanks again!

Also, please post this in the women's section too.

I know that posting the same thing in more than one forum isn't allowed, but because of the nature of this and that it's a medical alert warning rather than trying to start long threads, the mods probably wont mind.

This is one reason men should use contraceptive as well. Another is of course to reduce the chances of contracting or passing on an STD.

I don't use that brand; I use something called Ne-Con, so I think I'm safe.

agreed. the chances of pregnancy with a condom and birth control is something like 0.001 or something like that. You would have to have phenomally bad luck to have a defective condom and defective or missed birth control pill.

However birth control pills are only 50 percent guarenteed
A condom is around 70 percent.

but I dont have to worry about all that since I am asexual...but I thought it was important for others to get this information.

Olive Oil Mom....whew thats a close one! anyway I will post it in the women's section

I only took the pill for a short while before I was married. I never liked it. My husband and I never used any birth control. We only have four kids though. Well, after our third one we used condoms and foam and I'd keep track of my ovulation times. I got pregnant with my fourth baby using a condom and foam and during a time I thought was safe.

I'm so very glad I did though!

I guess your fourth child was meant to be!!
Did you hear the Obama signed a bill that requires all businesses to pay for birth control in their health insurance. This is good, but he also requires that of churches and Christian run businesses as well, lets just say the Catholics are PO-ed. But see the Catholics need not worry because if a child is meant to be, armor plated contraceptives wont keep you from getting preggies.

If I ever did become sexually active, I think I will get my tubes tied b/c I would not make a good mother, but at least I have the good sense to realize that beforehand.

I think that privately owned small businesses (I don't know what size would be too big) should be allowed to choose what benefits to offer. And as much as I hate all forms of bigotry and sexism and racism and discrimination, I do think that if you own a small business, you should have the right to choose who you hire to work for you without government interference. I would boycott a business if they refused to hire people of a certain race, or sex, or size, or age, or anything like that, but I do support their right to make that choice. Even if they don't hire you because they don't like your haircut. They should be able to do so and let the consumers be the ones to punish them for it by not patronizing them. I do not think that big business or government should be able to do that however. Government should be nonbiased, and big business controlls too much and too many industries and retailers for the public to be able to boycott successfully.

If providing birth control is against the owners religion, they shouldn't be forced by the government to violate their own ethics. I would say that should extend to anything that a recognized religion believes. If they don't want to hire a single woman with kids, or a divorced person, or a gay person, or someone living with their partner, that's up to them. I would say that should extend to small business only though. I do not think any church run business or organization should be forced to provide it. [b]

I think it depends on your age and if you have had children. Many docs won't do it unless you have had at least one baby. Some make you wait until you have a second. Unless you have a medical problem. They might consider that AS/ASD could make pregnancy very hard and go ahead and do it.[b]

I agree that freedom of religion should be evoked in this case.
As far as the rest, I am not sure how I feel about that yet.

I have a seizure disorder too, so I probably could convince a doctor to do it, plus I am 34...so its not like I am 19 and just dont wanna get fat.

Have you tried a diaphram before??

No. I haven't ever used much in the way of birth control. When I was single and engaged in my late teens I got on the pill. Later, after we brokeup I used condoms. Then I got married the first time and got back on the pill. Then divorced and stayed on the pill again for a while (this was before HIV), and then when I married my husband I got off the pill. Never used anything else, except after our third baby we used condoms and foam and I kept track of my ovulation. Then after she was born he got a vasectomy.

I have a friend who used one back in the late 70s, early 80s. She loved it. I think it would bother me, knowing it was in there. I don't know what I would use now if I were young and single. My 18 yo daughter uses the pill. I would be afraid of those super pills or the implants.

What do you think you would use if you wanted to have sex and couldn't get a tubal?

No what I read was the ingredients were not in the right order in terms of amounts of each.

Olive Oil Mom...If I couldnt get my tubes tied, I would insist on condom and I would use a diaphram. I cant use the pill. It lowers my seizure threshold...probably another reason I should never attempt to have a baby. I have life threatening seizures that are delicately controled.

If you have a bad seizure disorder, I'm sure the doc would do one for you then. And you said you are in your 30's, so you are old enough to know your own mind.

Ya that is if I ever decided to be sexually active again. Been 11 years since the last time I been sexually active and am rather content this way.
However finding another Asexual that just like likes to cuddle will prove hard to come by.
I was sexually abused several times in my life, so like my therapist said, "most of your sexual experiences have not been consentual." would explain why I am happier asexual.

As it is now, I see no point in altering my body when there is no need to.
But anything is possible, I hear women's hormones peak in their 40's....who knows what will happen for me then.

There are so many specialty dating sites that I'm surprised that there isn't one that includes an option for aesexual.

ETA; I just Googled asexual dating sites and several came up. This is one of the first ones that isn't a paid ad. I don't know if it's the way of meeting that you want, but here's what I found.

Web Page Name I went to the first page, but didn't click on anything. I don't know anything about it, but there were quite a few.

As for hormones peaking in your 40's, well in my early 40's they did. I'm in my late 40's now and although it would be nice, it's just not happening much at all. It doesn't really make much of a difference to me anymore. It's a nice idea but normally I'd rather just go to sleep. I'm in perimenopause so my hormones are all over the place.

I mean my husband just isn't interested either. It's not that we aren't attracted to each other, he's got a bit of something going on that calls for the blue pill and he won't ask for it. Then again, it's really expensive and I'd rather spend that money on something else. I would never say that to him though. I'd like him to want to because it's good to be wanted and for him to prove it, if you know what I mean. As it is, when we get in bed we just cuddle up and go to sleep. It's nice. But occasionally I'd like some good old fashioned gettin' down lol.

You're not necessarily safe just because you don't use this brand. Mix ups and mess ups are common the pharmaceutical industry. Just look up Baxter's safety record. 100's of violations if I recall correctly. Plus, all the plants the FDA has had to shut down or have modified (after years of ignoring the issue) is part of the reason there a news stories about drug shortages.
