The article is specious because Einstein's IQ was never measured.
Besides, the term "IQ" is practically meaningless.

Yeah, I guess you're right. IQ tests just mainly focus on a few things. My IQ's a bit lower than average but that's because of the math. I'm above average in language arts.

Richard Feynman's (Nobel laureate in Physics) IQ was 125. There's a bunch of other scientists with slightly higher than average IQ's who went on to do big things, but I can't remember them off the top of my head. It just doesn't seem that IQ means as much as it supposed to mean.

IQ pretty much means nothing.

Anyway, he's only 12, the world hasn't destroyed his moral yet.

I was told I was genius at 12 and had all this "potential".
Now I'm almost 42 and a total loser.

such is the curse of the Aspie....the ever elusive "potential" that many of us never achieve. (no hate mail from those who do actually find their potental :wink: )
How many of us have heard the wonders of our potential if we just applied ourselves, then lived with the guilt of "not applying ourselves" when the meaning of the application is turning an Aspie into an NT.

sorry if I seem so pessimistic....my life seems so meaningless at times,

John Von Neumann was one of the few famous scientists who would have had a freakishly high IQ. It's not the same as the associative spark nor the drive. Mostly I think it just saves you going to the library.

most scientists are unusually good at math, but over all score is brought down in other areas, some are the rare exception like that guy.

If it were not for my problems with math, I would have genius score, but my problems in math are truly profound.
my latest test I scored 120 even with having a 4th grade math level at 35 years old.

I've found that all the intelligence & talent in the world doesn't mean squat if one does not have the social skills to 'sell' one's self in the world. Most of the human population is pretty darn stupid and is quite threatened by smart people, it's really those who are adept in the mysterious social dance who truly have the world in the palm of their hand.

Hopefully, the prodigy kid in the OP has well connected parents and won't get dragged down by substance abuse by the time he's 25.
So often you see these brilliant kids go to complete waste once they enter their teen years. The trauma of high school has destroyed sooo much potential in so many gifted kids.

You're very much so right. It doesn't matter how book smart you are, if you're not people smart and street smart it's harder to adjust to life. My friend could land almost any job she wanted to just because of her outgoing and bubbly personality but when it comes to book smarts she's not the brightest.

Now, now. IQ scores aren't meaningless.

IQ scores are a very accurate measurement of a person's ability to take IQ tests.

However, the fact that they are meaningful does not mean that they are useful....
