http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/372458/20120810/david-berkowitz-son-sam-gun-control-summer.htm

For those of you don't know, David Berkowitz is the "Son of Sam" killer. He shot and killed 6 people, and wounded 7 more in NYC. It's very unusual for serial killers to use a gun.

Another expert agrees, gun control works!

Oh, I don't know. I imagine he's gotten the psychological care in prison that he never had while free and killing decades ago. His mental health has probably improved since those days.
Not that I want the guy loose and walking with gun in hand by my wife and I sitting in our parked car.

Of course he's for gun control, armed victims sort of take the fun out of serial killing.

Dear Dox-47, can we please rent a billboard and put your comment on it?
Maybe t- shirts, too?
We will be rich, as well as sharing some common sense.

Nothing would make me happier than making David Berkowitz the new face of the gun control movement.

They will put the blame on the NRA for enabling Berkowitz having a gun and that the gun took control of his mind.

I seriously doubt anyone thinks that.

For people that think that way, look no further than the PPR forum! It's unfortunate it's not practical to keep up with all 5 (I think) threads. :(

I think everyone knows Berkowitz was/is off his rocker. Now, if he claimed his gun was talking to him, you might have an argument.

Browning beat me to it, but yeah, I think some people actually do think that, or something very similar. Look at the whole narrative of gun control, that otherwise normal and law abiding people suddenly turn into potential killers when you put a gun in their hand, as if the gun itself changed their personality and morality. It's not that far off from claiming a serial killer's weapon is what made him kill.

This is perhaps the most ironic thing I've seen.

Perhaps you could argue that a murderer wouldn't have killed if guns weren't available, but I state again - nobody serious believes that the gun or gun manufacturers could transform a gentle, law abiding individual into a killer.

Well not exactly, but gun control advocates tend to have a real external locus of control which gives them the underlying assumption that the average Joe has just as much of a propensity for extreme violence as the habitually violent. The habitually violent have certain personality traits, values, etc. that give them that propensity for violence. Extreme acts of violence aren't just mere isolated incidents where just about anyone could've slipped up and gave in to impulse, they're a reflection of habitual patterns of thought and behaviour.
