Cool!

It seems such a puppet would scare away prey and a predator attacking it would destroy the web and possibly carry the spider off with it.

I guess a small predator that could eat something the size of the tiny spider but not something the size of its' puppet might get scared.

Also a large creature that might not notice the tiny spider might notice the puppet and, fearing it may be venomous, avoid trampling the web, thereby saving the tiny puppeteer a lot of trauma and work. That would make sense.
