14 yo autistic boy bludgeoned to death

It's a horrible incident, but I don't see how the fact that the boy was autistic has anything at all to do with what happened -- why do they point it out?

The stepfather is extremely traumatised. Yeah. I would be, too. Tragic.

News reports tend to point out any characteristics that identify a person as "vulnerable" - elderly, young, disabled, etc.

News sources usually mention autism to either make you feel sorry for or blame someone. In this case, I'd say they wanted to make the crime seem extra tragic. It wasn't just a 14yr old boy...it was a poor, defenseless, disabled boy! As opposed to when a parent kills their child, which is totally understandable if the child was one of those awful, burdensome autistic kids. *eyeroll*
