Coca-Cola drinking 'linked to New Zealander's death'

Drinking large quantities of Coca-Cola was a "substantial factor" in the death of a 30-year-old woman in New Zealand, a coroner has said.

Natasha Harris, who died three years ago after a cardiac arrest, drank up to 10 litres of the fizzy drink each day.

This is twice the recommended safe limit of caffeine and more than 11 times the recommended sugar intake.

A very sad death but, again, there are reasonable limits to everything. Drinking such a phenomenal amount of any one thing isn't good for you. Drinking 15 pints of beer every day wouldn't be healthy either.

Apparently Coke is a great pesticide and oven cleaner though. You can't win them all. :)

Drinking too much water can do you in.

Remember Terry Schiavo? Her problem came about from drinking so much tea that her electrolyte levels fell too low and she suffered a heart attack from which she never recovered and ended up in a coma.

A few years ago there was a medical doctor running in the Houston Marathon who collapsed and died shortly after finishing. It turned out that he was making his own experimental sports drink instead of drinking those provided and he neglected to add sufficient electrolytes to his sports drink.

I like coke but it would never even occur to me to try and drink 10 liters a day even for one day.
That's just asking for it.

So Bloomberg is also a clairvoyant?

It says something about our society when biscuits and chocolate are cheaper than fruit and then we're all shocked when these unhealthy products actually cause deaths...

Even if fruit was much cheaper than biscuits and chocolate, people would still pick the chocolate and biscuits. Ask yourself why.

Dihydrogen monoxide is also addicting as hell!

Have you ever heard of anyone giving it up?

Someone told me years ago about a certain healthfood freak who was fanatic about carrot juice.

He drank so much of it that he finnally died of Karotine poisoning ( he actually started to turn orange before he died).

He who lives by the carrot, dies by the carrot!

Of course, news agencies try to spin it off with headlines like "Woman dies from drinking Coke", as if Coke were somehow inherently harmful, even in reasonable amounts. Anyone who drinks that much of anything is going to die fairly soon. Ten liters of water in a day may well kill you, and it's likely the only thing that kept her going that long was the slight diuretic effect of the caffeine. This is an example of an extreme case of addiction.
