Astromers are just zig-zagging back and forth.

For decades they called Uranus and Neptune "gas giants" in the same family as Jupiter and Saturn.

Then they started calling them "ice giants" because they seemed to be made mostly of frozen water and frozen other things.

Now they are finding evidence of Methane and so they may go back to calling them "gas giants" again.

We have known for a long time they were largely composed of Methane. Its what gives them their colors.
