It's not a bad idea.

Who do we know of who would actually use such a technicality to put people in jail for life?

Georgie, no kidding, puts people on the sex offender registry for extramarital sex.

Then I think we'll lose a majority of legislators, not to mention quite a few judges ;).

You mean Georgia? That probably wouldn't surprise me. Wouldn't surprise me if Idaho or Utah--or Texas did that either. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if Texas were to use the death penalty to enforce such a law--and we execute a lot of people down here.

But I always thought Michigan was one of the more liberal states.

It's probably one of those laws that is largely unenforceable.

It's one of those laws that can be used to get rid of people.

I think that would be a practical idea.

Bad idea. Imprisoning people for personal matters? Are they nuts? Is this because of religion or something?

No way. There are reasons for adultery. e.g- Significant other is not interested in sexual relations, adulterer is fed up with partner, whatever. This would essentially bind people to someone until divorce. I think that this sort of thing is nothing to go to prison for, but it should be sorted out amongst the concerned people. Official family support groups, perhaps. All people concerned are consenting adults. Their issues, their problem. Whilst I dislike adultery and look down on it, it is not exactly something to be punished for. What if the person was nice in all other aspects but they were very good, successful parents?

"Why are my mummy and daddy in jail for not loving each other anymore?"

Exactly. It would destroy families more than adultery itself.

It is happening.

Don't think that just because the thing that they outlaw is considered a "perversion", they will stop there. It may take them a while to get around to making it worse, but in America until the 1960s almost all sexual practices were illegal except those done within a marriage with the purpose of making a baby. The need to increase the human population, by the way, was already gone by 1960. The U.S. of A. had enough humans to accomplish anything that it needed to by then.

Anubis, welcome back to 1950, and yes it is about religion. Once again a religion inspired by the idea of peace on Earth is using violence and threats to take freedoms away frome everyone. Isn't it charming and quaint?

Well then I'm going to enjoy seeing half the American population in jail. and with that, that solves everything. Now if you support this thing, I laugh.

Spot on. Personal matters are no business of the state. Full stop. I find this idea rather morally repellent.

Why is that? The people involved are consenting adults and, as has already been said, there are all sorts of reasons for adultery. This piece of legislation would simply end up being used to get rid of people the state doesn't like. While adultery may be morally wrong, it must never be the business of the state to dictate morality to people; that is the job of the people.

It's called 'The rectal extraction method' I just wish these people would do the same for their heads.
