Quote:
Authorities on Wednesday charged 14-year-old Philip Chism with the murder of Colleen Ritzer, whose body was found after she failed to return home from work Tuesday.

Chism was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Salem, Massachusetts, on a murder charge and was ordered held without bail. A grand jury must decide if he will be charged as an adult.

According to the accusation read in court, the boy is accused of assaulting and beating Ritzer to death.

Police found Ritzer's body after discovering blood in a second-floor bathroom of Danvers High School.

Chism, who also had been reported missing Tuesday afternoon, was arrested early Wednesday after being found walking down a street. There are no other suspects.

The connection between Ritzer and the boy was not clear.

More details in the article.

One detail that is worthy of note: No firearms were used in the commission of this crime.

Sigh there is to much knife control!:(

That said this is very sad and I worry they might associate him with the spectrum.

This tragedy has really hit home for me more than any other recent event. I feel sad any time I learn of sensless violence that seems to be spreading like a plague these days, but this one.....it just hurts me more than anything lately. Its most likely because I feel like I had a lot in common with the victim; age, attitude, respect for others, etc..... I'm also from Mass. so it just stings that much more when something like this happens so close to home.

I never had the privelege to know Ms. Ritzer, or even hear about her until last week, but I almost feel as though I have lost a family member or a friend. I hope she is loved and made to feel welcome in heaven, and hope God comforts her family and friends. I also hope that someone with such a brilliant and promising life ahead of her was not lost in vain. I hope that we as a society can learn from such a sad and horrific event and do more to prevent something like this from happening again.
