From what the article demonstrated, there certainly are some very hateful misogynists trolling twitter and the internet. Not to belittle the fright one of these scumbags inspired in the author, but I'm not exactly sure if this is a civil rights issue (as she called it), but just a civility issue.

People in general would do well NOT to put so much personal information about themselves on the internet.

I refuse to hide my true gender online no matter what filth these disgusting male boars spew forth. I swear if men had there way we'd all still be their maids, cooks and sex slaves without the right to vote or even wear pants. :wall:

It's 2014, why are people still acting like we're in the Dark Ages?

How could a computer tell the gender of who is connected to the web (unless that user specifies a genders in his/her responses)?

It can't tell.
However, some (actually, a helluva lot of) people insist on posting every facet of their daily lives on facebook or twitter. Maybe they should be able to safely do that, but in the real world it is very imprudent.

Much like regular life, the internet is full of creeps, dumbasses and presumed "tough guys."

Some people have to put some of their personal information on the internet for professional reasons. Telling them not to do it would make them take a financial hit, plus it would be getting in the way of their freedoms. A man doesn't have to deal with anywhere near as much harassment as a woman, is it fair that women face greater restrictions? That they are vagabonds instead of tourists, using the terms of the article?
