This is just crazy and it happened right down the street from me! I can't believe cops didn't arrest this out of control woman. Instead, they go after her husband who was only attempting to keep her from leaving him and the daughter stranded. It really upsets and angers me! This guy, who did nothing, paid the ultimate price. They pepper sprayed him, too.

From the article:

Quote:
I know these officers, and I don’t believe there was any ill will,” Moore Police Chief Jerry Stillings said in a news conference.

I'm starting to think that if cops somewhere opened up on a group of people with a belt fed machine gun their chief would automatically defend it.

"My officers felt the the growing crowd of kids at the Easter egg hunt were out of control, so they took necessary steps to regain control of the situation and restore order".

Here's another report on the same incident. Unless they're not telling us something, it certainly looks like excessive force.

From the article:
“If you’re out walking, we’re going to stop you, ask why you’re out walking, and check for your ID,” police chief Todd Stovall told a December town hall meeting. As if to render the implementation of a visible police state more palatable, Stovall assured residents that police stops would not be based on any profiling: “We’re going to do it to everybody,” he said.

That IS a police state, there.
Screw that! :x

This seems like they are trying to combine the military with the police in Springfeild,MO.It seems innocent enough, just ONE(so they say), person, but maybe they are trying to get their boot in the front door.

Sounds like a police state to me. They are passing judgement rather than working as servants of the court.

It does feel like that sometimes. Cops are everywhere.

The police are not really bad in this county,I guess because everyone knows each other.I don't think I'll visit Paragould anytime soon :D My niece is a cop, she's a decent person. The one's that are jackasses tarnish the reputation of the good cops.
If we didn't have thieves, rapists, molestors, drunk drivers, methheads and murderers we wouldn't need them. They are a necessary evil.

The cops around here do not resort to excessive force that often and this is the first I have heard of them beating someone to death. They have shot a fleeing suspect who had already led Norman police on a high speed chase up to Moore.
I bet the guy must have said something and they lost it. Moore Culture does not like a flippant attitude from others though most people have that here. There are exceptions. It's a rowdy, bitchy little town for the most part with a very peevish attitude. So if the guy was like, get away from me don't touch me and cussing them, pulling his arm away when they tried to grab it, I can see that pissing the cops off because that kind of behavior and attitude does aggravate the people who live here. The only ones who are nice all the time work fast food and only because they want business. Everyone else has attitude rot.
Small town cops are always nicer than city cops. One helped me out of a ditch once in Perkins where my tire was stuck by a concrete culvert. It would be unheard of in The City where cops are much more ouchy. Just want to avoid for the most part.

In general, cops are not bad and serve a necessary function in society. However, they all seem to have that them against us mentality when it comes to the LE comunity as opposed to everyone else. I would not count on any two of them to stop a third one from going overboard and unnecessarily brutalizing or killing someone nor would I count on any police chief to publicly go against one of his own.
People need to examine the probability that more cops are not the solution but potentially more of a problem.

That's why a local Senator wants OSBI to investigate this and not an internal investigation.

Especially when the police cancel the town hall meeting meant to discuss the issue!

I doubt they would do that here especially since Arkansas is doing it and that's where Bill Clinton originated. We have strong police presence in Moore but they don't stop random people without any reason and incidents of excessive force remain rare compared to other areas of the city.
Since this part of town underwent development, crime has gone way up compared to what it was when it was the Wilderness of Moore and Fritz Dairy Farm.

Most people in my country would march off to the gas chambers if someone in authority told them to.

I've been stopped a block from my house for no reason. People don't leave their homes like they do in other places, and I'm starting to see why.
