I just read something about people wanting to ban Dr. Suess's book "Hop on Pop" from a library in Toronto because it's too violent and will brainwash your kids into thinking it's okay to "attack" their own fathe. Are you completely kidding me? They want to ban this beloved classic children's book, which tells you several times that you must NOT hop on Pop. When I was a kid I went to a religious school and they made us read the Bible which is just choc-full of killing and gore and death. When are they going to ban *that*?! :?

Political correctness. There's nothing correct about it. :x

This is no laughing matter, we are talking about children growing up thinking it's normal for cats to wear hats! 8O

:D the kids didn't want to hop on pop,but I wanted to stomp him right before the divorce.Actually,I still do.
There was two kids in the neighborhood that we called thing one and thing two,and they acted just like them.In less than twenty minutes those brats did a tremendous amount of damage. They ran thru the garden kicking the onion sets, one of them jumped up and swung out on a macrame plant hanger,it broke, and he fell, jumped up and they headed into a shed, grabbed a bee hive tool and tried to stab me with it when I went to get it from them, then they ran inside, jerked a big jade plant out of a flower pot and busted it,they wound up in the bedroom jumping up and down on the bed which an antique quilt was spread. We finally got the parents to round them up and get them to hell out of dodge. The parents said they were going to take them home and give them some NyQuil. 8O I suppose that was easier than actually disciplining those kids.

Bahahaha, now I've heard everything.  I LOVED Hop on Pop when I was a little kid, and there's really nothing in it that encourages kids to harm their fathers in any way. In the actual book (as I recall) we see two bear cubs bouncing on their Papa Bear's belly proclaiming, "We like to hop, we like to hop, we like to hop on top of pop," followed up immediately with the papa bear sternly rebuking them with "STOP....you must NOT hop on pop" and the kids looking all wide-eyed and in awe of his authority. So, I don't really think there's anything in the actual book that endorses the abuse of fathers...if anything, it discourages it.

This is a shame.

I used to love reading Hop on Pop to the daughters. I had memorized it just like my other favorite Dr. Seuss books: Green Eggs and Ham, Go Dog Go, The Cat in the Hat, Mr Brown Can Moo, ABC, Fox in Socks, and Put Me in the Zoo.

I'll be ashamed to be a Torontonian if this passes.

But I thought Pop told his kids to not hop on him. Anyone would know that if they finished the book. It's as though they came to a conclusion after only reading the first few pages.

What is this world coming to? This has got to be one of the stupidest things I've heard in ages. It sounds like the PC brigade is at it again.

By the same reasoning you could censor history lessons as well. Lots of violence, don't tell kids about 20th century history or they may turn into mass murderers.
