I remember being scared when I went to "Alien", I rushed out to see it the day it opened.
His design for the creature will probably never be topped.
H.P. Lovecraft wrote about things that the mere sight of could drive you mad, but Giger actually painted their portrait.
Sad to hear that he too was bitter at the way Hollywood treated him.

That movie scared the bejezzus out of me. I wouldn't have gone back for the cat.

Sadly, I still don't see an obituary at Hollywood Reporter. To me, Giger is as important as Jack Pierce in creating monsters.

Let Hollywood keep their honors and prizes. Fans of sci-fi/horror will always have a place for this man in their hearts.

Amen to that ! !
He not only created a monster for the ages, but an entire look. I'm thinking of that scene in "Aliens" where the Marines go down a tunnel that gets progressively creepier and creepier, and those of us in the audience are shouting for them to run away ! !
But of course, it's too late.

The Alien was an absolute masterpiece of a movie monster back when AvP existed only in games and comics, and Resurrection hadn't been made.

Not only was Giger one of my favourite artists, but because I'm such a rough little oik he's practically the only artist I could name and recognise that hadn't already been dead for a while.

Apparently he fell down the stairs, I bet he tripped on a dildo or something.

RIP, you creepy old clumsy bastid.

Think about this. Throughout his life Giger had trouble sleeping and was constantly troubled by, what he called 'night terrors". That alien that you see was his night terrors given solid form, right down to the double jaws.

Creepy huh!

Reminds me of H.P. Lovecraft, who often had nightmares about the sort of things he later wrote about.
