I think that the court should in the ideal world view the fact that the girl had autism as a factor which makes the crime more serious. I suspect however that this unfit mother will attempt to use her daughter's state as an excuse.

If she had been so opposed to having the child in her home, why did she not get the state to look after the child ?

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

This woman was drained, but that's no excuse for one to bother doing such a thing. 99% of my sympathy goes to the daughter.

Not a shred of sympathy from me.

She was offered LOADS of help, even getting in to the special needs school her husband is the principle of. She was verbally abusive to the interviewing staff, so they decided to keep her far away at the expense to poor Issy.

I don't care how many times Issy hit her. I don't care if she felt overwhelmed. I don't even know how that's possible since Issy had just come back from a residential institution and had round the clock care! She deserves everything coming to her.

The woman called her blog The Status Woe, concerning the care for her autistic kid - I think that describes her mindset all along concerning the care for her child.

"Life unworthy of life." That was the Nazi excuse for murdering around 15 million people, half of them Jews, in gas chambers.

"To keep you is no gain; to kill you is no loss." The Khmer Rouge murdered maybe 15% of the entire population of Cambodia.

At the ultimate end of martyr thinking lies the conclusion that to kill the child and oneself makes the parent the ultimate martyr. The very word "martyr" comes from an early Christian leader who chose death over renouncing his faith. Choosing death is seen as the ultimate way to be remembered. They died for our sins, goes the thinking. The parent wants to be Christ on the cross, bleeding for every parent who has to raise an autistic child. Yes, it's tough. If you can't handle it, put the child up for adoption. Kelli didn't want to give up Issy because "she is ours and we love her!" Loved almost to death.

Having been abused by parents myself, I really feel for the victim!

I think that sums it up pretty well. Being martyred for martyrdom's sake is being an arse at best, and in this case much worse. This isn't the first we've heard of this, and I'm sure she'll be featured in the next Autism Speaks documentary and maybe even praised in some twisted manner.

Same here. Obviously the mother cared because she made efforts to spread awareness and helped her daughter obtain special education. At some point she must have snapped and decided she and her daughter were better off dead, because I can't imagine any sane parent would attempt this. In any case, the daughter is the victim, not her. I hope she goes to prison. If parents of autistic children are let off the hook for this, it is more likely to keep happening.

I feel for the victim more than I do for her ex-schoolyard bully of a mother.
